I could drive to Parker knife show in TN, @ 4hours away tomorrow...
or I could get a custom folder at about 1/3 off, a maker I have been
wanting a knife from... but my 3rd favorite pattern of his, not the first.
However, I have just closed in on a quest to get a gec made on my son's
date of birth. Can't afford them all, hopefully I can sleep!

Which one do you value you more? I personally would grab the heirloom birthday knife.

Dont know what will be at the knife show and you may not get anything

Third favorite pattern

Son's bday knife :)

I hear you. 3am now, definately staying home. Guess I will go make some extra $, and try to swing both knives!

I have found that family knife gifts and actually getting to spend time with knife makers on their turf is much more rewarding than a show. I've only been to small shows though ;). I am glad to call Scott Gossman my friend, and have gone to Larry Nowicki's shop, and seen J Neilson, Butch Harner and Deker in action at a blacksmithing event.

Skipped the show. Still no definate date of birth on folder from dealer....
custom is now @ 1/2 the cost of new from maker.
I do get to chat a bit with a few makers at blade show each year!
and so i wait...
