I saw a beautiful drop point hunter today. Someone had sold it to a local gun shop. It was a 4" drop point hunter. It had a brass bolster and six brass pins holding on beautiful exotic wood handles. The blade was fully hollow ground and the the full tang was nicely tapered. It had a leather hand made sheath with cat gut or bees waxed stitching. The knife was brightly polished and the steel unknown. Has anyone ever heard of G.L. Drew? And if so what might be the value of such a knife if well cared for? The shop owner seemed to think that $175 was a great deal on said knife.

I am pretty sure this is the guy that used to alot of the gun shows in our area. While he used to very active, I have not seen him around in the last couple years. I talked to a buddy of mine and he seems to think he is still making a few knives. If I hear anything else, i will let you know.

Drew still does some shows in NC. I have seen him several times at the C&E show in Charlotte in the last year. From what I recall, his knives were very reasonably priced, with most pieces under $200.

Thanks a lot. Since it is not new I'll pass on this deal until the price comes down to around the $120 to $150 range. A beautiful piece of work though. I hope that I see this guy at some future Salem and Roanoke gun shows.

He wasn't at the last Salem show which was last week. However, there were more knives at that show than at any other I've been to in the past.

Any Idea what type of steel he uses?
Thanks.

I think Markk is remembering the same price range as I did. Seems like he using ATS-34 for his blade material. Hope this helps.

Gery is a good friend and I've got several of his knives. He does the gun show in Charlotte rather often. His knives are well worth more than what he charges, but most of them are in the $100 to $150 range. I would just buy one from him directly.
