the guy says he can "verify it is authentic." wonder how that works?

Buyer calling: Hey, is that thing authentic? Are you authorized to authenticate this thing?
Seller: Uh, yep.
Buyer: Well, good enuf fer me!
Seller: Cha-ching!

No great knowledge on my part.

These have been discussed before
with the general asumption that they are not 'real'.

If you look at the angle of blade to barrel,
you see it could not be very useful as a stabbing bayonet.

Yet I've had my suspicions that they were carried by Gurkhas at one time.
In a parade when some ranking officer
(I'm thinking British officer, not Nepali)
decided they 'looked good'.
I bet a bunch were put together for such a purpose, once.
Maybe twice.
Any created after that were probably for done specifically
for sale to tourists or collectors.

But just a suspicion & a guess.

Hadn't noticed that before.

So this was made as is.......

Not a retrofit of a regular khuk with a mount welded on......

hmmmmmm.............

I think they were originally 'parade' decorations.

They did exist, But that isnt one of them.

Now,Now Ferrous that sounds rather cynical! Why I bet he would even give you a "genuine certificate of Authenticity" if you want one!

cheers,
Spiral ;)

Interesting to compare these two pix.

the top is more likely converted from a 'regular' kukri
and the point is dropped much lower.

The bottom is obviously made originally as a bayonet form--
see 'cho creep' & connection to barrel mounting.

Whether or not it is another 'type' of fake is another question.

Oh this is ironic.....just was talking with Spiral about one I saw at the gunshow this weekend. The cho was rather high as in the second photo of Ddean's. The dealer was asking $95 for his.....passed that one up rather easily.

Amazing how this stuff arrives universally.....
