Okay, here's my story.

I'm new to the Forums and have a meager Knife collection. Maybe 20 knives but all quality knives including Camillus, Case, Schrade, Becker, Bark River, Benchmade, Spyderco, Imperial/Frontier, Gerber, and a Swamp Rat on order. No junk in the safe. Of those, 1/2 have sentimental value while the other 1/2 are strictly functional blades that I've purchased myself. I don't tend to buy for collector status but more for practical uses. IOW, I use what I have.

Back in 1999-ish I picked up an old beater of a truck. A 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton P/U with about a million miles on it. While replacing a rocker panel that rusted completely off I noticed what looked like a knife stuck in the springs of the seat. I checked and sure enough it was a Camillus Air Force Survival Knife in the original leather sheath w/ the sharpening stone in tact. Inspection revealed that the knife was stamped "Camillus" on one side and "4-1968" on the the hex at the butt .
Not only that, it was pretty much rusted beyond belief.

After a quick trip to the wire wheel on the bench grinder and a working over with the Lansky. she was once again ready for whatever I could throw at it. Pitted and all.

last year I turned the knife over to my then 16-year-old son as he likes to abuse blades as much as his old man.:p

We camped in Elkins WV last Labor Day weekend and for some odd reason, that was the last I remember having it. I've spent the last two days turning the house and garage up-side-down looking for it and have yet to find it. I'll be out in the garage tomorrow looking through the boat in hopes of finding it but I'm not holding my breath.

This has really got me bugged. It has no sentimental value but the fact that I've lost it is enough to drive me around the bend.

I have my first EDC and can honestly say, I've never lost a knife. I've found a few that others have lost but never lost one myself.

Whadda ya think? should I order up a new model?

Why not, it's a great knife and will take lots of abuse. Hey, if you have kids any younger, how about one of these full-sized model kits from Japan of the same same knife?

Well, I looked in the boat and, no joy.
Thanks for the reply Phil. BTW, I have to ask, Have you ever posted as "gr8 scout" anywhere? (Not trying to get too personal, it goes back a couple years but I can explain)

If you'd rather not answer that here, feel free to e-mail me.

Hey, an old friend from another forum.
Forum content: A special issue Camillus, the A-bomb Nagasaki/Hiroshima commemorative, described in another thread.

One of the greatest knives ever made, in my humble opinion.
