Well here's another stupid thing I did. I haven't taken a week off in years and years, and I'm finally, finally getting the chance to. Unfortunatly didn't plan gas prices so to insure of said vaction I've sold a couple guns, and a lot of knives, and some swords. After all, if you must vaction, enjoy it. Between working a lot, and money for sales I should be okay. What I didn't think about was what to keep. I just noticed that what I kept for myself, the knife that i have to carry is.......

A ruko. I don't even remember where it came from. I can tell you its got puke green wood scales, and bladeplay that will go around the world. Its lock is a special finger death of doom.

The lesson has been learned.

Wish me luck tommorrow. Its a large order to put away at work tommorrow.

Anyone else had a period of time when they had a crappy or no knife?

That is a terrible story! how could you sell all your knives?
I had crappy knives when I was a wee lad, until I bought my first Buck when I was 12. Soon after that I got a buck 110 as well. I have bought crappy knives since then, but I managed to rid myself of them at some point. :barf:

Since then, I have always had a decent knife on me, even all through school, as I graduated HS just before/as they started freaking out and treating kids like deranged psychopathic hoodlums. (1997) I couldnt sell all my knives, I would feel naked.

I'd skip the vacation.
:D
Then again the only vacations we go on are camping trips.
18 bucks a night aint bad ;)

I wouldn't pay $18 to camp... not with millions of acres of BLM and National Forest that are free to use. I hate campgrounds - they're like motels without walls.

I would never sell my knives!

I wouldn't sell my knives either if I could avoid it. If I had to sell them all, I'd keep at least a decent one and a multitool or SAK.

There are lots of good knives that you can get for quite a low price. I'm sure that an $10 Opinel, mora or SAK wouldn't cut too much into your vacation budget. Even a 110 can be found for around $25 at Wal-Mart. Do your self a favour and pick up a good knife, life's too short to be wasted on crappy blades!

Bob, you don't live in NYC and I'm betting that you don't have a 96 year old dad that you don't want to be more than 2 hours away from.

My favorite campground is off the beaten path, family friendly and I'm good friends with the guy that runs the place. The fishing is good, the ride is short there's a couple thousand acres to play in and my daughter or wife can take the train up if work or school shortens their weekend.
In 26 years of going there we've had trouble 2x.

One takes what one can get in the time available.
The glass is half full for me.

I completely understand. I grew up near Chicago, where outdoor opportunities are rather limited also. Now I live in rural New Mexico, surrounded by forests, deserts, mountains, and canyons. But I rarely have time to enjoy the local resources...

Enjoy your vacation and have a safe trip.

There's cities in New Mexico!?
Much of the Rio Grande corridor is a polluted, congested, over-developed craphole. Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Sante Fe... Many of the smaller towns are also congested, poorly designed, and sprawling.

Sorry to ruin your hopeful stereotype. :(

I recently made a 5-day business trip by plane, and had carry-on luggage, only. I had been dreading the trip since the day I learned I was going. I emptied my pockets in front of the airport, and watched my wife put them all in the glove box. I almost cried. I was more nervous about being without a knife than any possible terrorist stuff, or plane crashes. When I arrived, and met with some of our local folks, I must have expressed my worry/problem more emphatically than I realized, as the next day, one of the gentlemen was kind enough to lend me a SAK for the duration of my stay. Unfortunately, it was as dull as a butter knife, and I had no way to sharpen it. Of course I couldn't complain, as his generosity was overwhelming, but thankfully, no real emergency occurred, and I never truly needed a knife. (Yes, opening packages, and cutting loose threads can be done without a knife!)

The longest 5 days of my life...
