I checked out the bearings in my 50# Little giant and the front one has cracks and was pourd very thin on one side.
Any of you guys ever done a babbit job?
Just looking for some tips.
Thanks
Mace

Hammer info: LG 50 old style....center clutch.
Found out from Sid that it was origanaly sold in 1920 in Colorado.

hey mace what about that guy from the ashokan seminar who told you how to do the babbit... you were probably too doing other stupid sh1t with aldo

Mace, if the shaft is tight in the bearings, cracks are no prob, if the shims are gone and the shaft is lose then pour new ones. Call Sid at Little Giant, he can talk you through it, he also sells everything you need and will rent you a hollow shaft with the hardware to make the job alot easier, he was a huge help when I did my 100 pounder.

Don, There was no play in the shaft...that I could tell.....and no shims either.

I'll call Sid and bend his ear some more.
Thanks for the help guys.
Mace
