I just picked up an oddball Randall. Looks to be a GTR, but with tool steel instead of stainless. 1990's era non-stamped sheath. Lovely handle and balance though; not sure if it's rosewood or ironwood.

I looked at the first pic and thought the blade was a raised point,, which I based my "guess" as a Denmark.
Based on the blade length, you first post would be correct, a GTR.

I actually think you were right the first time.

This has been an interesting and fun puzzle to work on. I found out that the early Denmarks were shorter blades, and that unmarked sheaths were common. The problem is, the sheath dates the knife around 1990, which would be a very late DS.

He likely meant through DS directly, before it became a NC model...I'd guess.

Thank you for the explanation. You know I need all the help I can get!!!

Merry Christmas

I'm afraid the knife shown may have been altered. There's no up-side to illustrating specifics. In general, it's not a Denmark, it's one inch +/- too short. It's not a GTR either. Compare the grind in the image below. Additionally, the GTR is only available in stainless. Lastly, the sheath, even the earliest, would be marked GTR.

Thank you Rick. I know that, but put my mouth/fingers in gear before my head.

Hello, I am new to the forum, and to knife collecting in general and thought I would mention my latest acquisition. The stag is what caught my eye initially but the discolored spacers and seemingly excessive solder joint at the base of the blade make me question the originality of this knife. What are your thoughts? It also looks like someone tried filling the stamp with model paint too...

Hi and welcome. Better, close-up photos would help. That said, from a distance, it looks fine to me. The spacers from that period fade, the logo strike back then often left slag behind, and excess solder is subjective. Cool knife, I'd like to see more.

Thanks Melvin, I just took some more photos with a "real" camera... I'll post the links to the "Show us your Newest Randalls" thread. Thanks again!
