Ever seen a James Morris(on) "Sebenza"?

I posted this question on Bernard Levine's forum, and at the suggestion of another BFC member I decided to also post it here in attempt to get some information. Thanks for your indulgence.

I was at a gun show Sunday in Dallas, and spotted a knife on a dealer's table that appeared to be a Sebenza. It was a titanium framelock, had a blade shape the same size of a Sebenza, and had a thumb disk setup. On the top of the blade were the maker's initials "JM". The dealer told me it was a knife made by a maker named either James (or Jim) Morris, or Morrison, and was in fact a precursor to the Sebenza, made years before the Sebenza was released. Note: I took my own Sebbie out of my pocket for comparison, and this knife was almost identical in size and shape.

Bottom line is that I was interested enough to buy the knife. Maybe I got taken, maybe not. Any of you folks ever hear of this maker? Thanks, geegee

Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera. I'll see if I can borrow a neighbor's to get a picture posted here. geegee

Here is one nylon framed one I have. It was a try
with Chris and CRKT to do some work together several
years ago. Buy CRKT couldn´t do the knife with that
standard Chris ask for so they where not produced.

I have one with a Eddie Bauer logo on and it looks like this.

Very nice shots! I really need to get a better camera. My Canon S330 doesn't have a good macro range and 2 mega pixel just doesn't give this kind of 'crispy' pictures.

Are those handles only nylon or is it Titanium inside and cover/lined with Nylon?

The blade looks like a 'regular'-shape in a 'classic' handles. I believe several here asked for that configuration but that can't be done with the current Sebenza's....

Jocke: As soon as I see you've posted some pictures, I start thinking "Oh boy...new wallpaper for my computer!"

I have to say that the knife I purchased looks nowhere near as good as the CRKT in your picture. I'm still trying to borrow a camera so I can post a picture, but at this point I'm beginning to think I got snookered with this knife. The fit and function of the framelock is ok, but nothing more than that. At best, it looks like a roughly made Sebenza. I've had no additional information at Knifeforums.com, so I guess no members there or here are familiar with this maker. geegee

I think a few years ago that AG Russel sold Ti framed knives from a Morrison. If I recall correctly they where $200 or so.

I try over at the AG russel forum on knifeforums.

I think those were ti handled liner-locks by a Jim Mattis (not the late owner of Chai Cutlery) that AG sold.

OK, I did some searching the AG knife might have been Mathes? Could that be your person?

Beats the heck outta me! I've posted a link to this thread over at KFC for AG Russell, I've searched his website, and I've been doing all sorts of Google searches-all coming up short. Hopefully, AG will respond. That may answer this mystery for me. Thanks for your effort. geegee

Architect: This has got to be the guy. The only thing that's not consistent in the description is that there are a couple of them that mention the knife being a linerlock, which it is not-it's a framelock, the same as the Sebenza. A few of those links are dead however, so I couldn't find a pic. Still hoping AG Russell can come to the rescue.

Thanks to all of you for jumping in here! :D geegee

wow, i've never seen a crkt sebenza before. Too bad they never went into production?

I did at one time carefully consider buying one. (I even started one of the threads mentioned)

I wonder if the demand never came so the knives where discontinued.

The knife was not made because CRKT could not produce the knife with the tolerances that CRK expected. So, they scrapped the project.

geegee,
Architect is correct on the name.
The knives are about 4.75in closed, blade steel used was ATS-34 and a thumb disc was used that sits on top of the blade (unlike Terzuola, JW Smith, etc who use the disc in a cut-out). JM also made linerlocks with G-10 as well as silver titanium scales as well as your framelock. They all look pretty much the same. My Cutting Edge May 1996 edition (fm AG Russell)has them priced at $200 to $240. Sad to say, I am certain that the Sebenza came first. . .

CRK&T still released some of those knives without CRK authorisation.
VERY bad form.:barf:
