I am constantly searching for the perfect handle I love micarta, antler & stag with crown. I was wondering if anyone has seen a knife with Micarta for some of the handle and antler for the end of the handle? And how hard would that be? I have seen some makers do this with wood and antler before. I think it would look pretty cool.

I haven't seen any production knives feature micarta and antler (that I know of), but with customs, the sky is the limit.

As kershaws said, make it a project. The new spyderco mule team comes out tomorrow I think, that would be a great base for a project:thumbup:

Forum member knife maker Matt Bailey often does combination handles and I reckon he might have done antler/micarta. Go look at his work. I've bought one of his knives and it is excellent.

I can only imagine how potentially awesome a knife with these covers together would look like. i hope you find a maker for this and post up picks asap!!

Thanks for the great answers and input I think I might just try to get er done. What color of micarta should I use though to go good with the antler?

Obviously that question goes a lot to personal taste, but I personally would like the Burgundy micarta or one of the Burlap micartas done in a rich brown or of course a black linen micarta combined with stag. I have seen a Barlow style knife done with a Burlap micarta and Black 'bolsters' so to speak, that looked really good, I would thimk if it was stag of the main portion of the handle, and then micarta for the 'bolster' area, that would look excellent.

I've done this on a few handles over the years with through tangs or hidden tangs (stacked in a Scagel configuration) and it turns out awesome! i use 1/4" micarta cut into 1"x1.5" squares then drill out a slot in each of them and slide them on behind the guard, then a small spacer to make it pop and cap it with a stag crown and pin the crown in place with a 1/8" rod to tie it all together. the combo ive used most often is brass guard, brown canvas micarta and a whitetail crown... it's a really easy way to make a really eye catching knife. With brown micarta it looks a lot like leather but the canvas adds a nice textured look to the handle. I haven't been able to post a single pic for some reason, but if anyone can tell me the easiest way to do that, i'll try and put one up.

good luck
