Fresh out of a farm sale came this most unusual 10# axe head. It is a "Bealls Bros" . Also impressed on this blacksmith made axe is "crucible steel", the number "10" and smaller letters " 3 0 3 ". Overall length is 20" and the cutting edges are 3". I hope someone can shed light on this. My guess, and nothing more than a guess is that it was designed for tree root cutting or perhaps cutting up early asphalt roadways, long before the diamond saws and impact hammers came into use. I'd appreciate any help in identifying this piece and I thank all in advance. Here's a picture of a few of my antique tools which 90% are blacksmith made. thank you and I apologize if I posted in the wrong category as this is my first visit. I will receive personal mail at pithole@zoominternet.net thanks P.S. How do I post pictures???? Why am I not allowed to post pictures?
