New poster and first post. I have a Benchmade #530 Mel Pardue blade I’ve had for a while. I lost it, found it, and lost it again. When I once again found it a 2nd time, I realized the action wasn’t nearly as smooth as it once was, so off to Benchmade it went. I keep leaving it in a coat pocket?

They returned it quickly but failed to replace the pocket clip to a deep carry as requested, but I digress. The blade deploys smoothly, but is still tight and doesn’t close as well as some I’ve seen on line. Is their a break end time for the action?

Also, I bought this knife because it’s so light and thin. I wish, though, that the thumb studs were a bit longer. I have gorilla hands and my thumb has to hunt for the stud. Is there a longer stud available?

Benchmade won't replace a pocket clip on one of their knives with a different style than was originally on that knife. I.E. your knife has a split arrow clip, they'll only replace your clip with a new split arrow clip, but they won't put a deep carry clip on it.

There is typically a break in period on their knives. Just play with it for a week or so, let the friction of all the parts moving together smooth them all out ad you should be good to go. If it's still tight after a week or so, add some lube and adjust the pivot tension to your liking.

If the action is smooth, I'd leave it alone and let it continue to break in with use. If you'd like to help it along, just dial back the pivot screw a hair to adjust to your liking. No wrong answer here, so long as you have the correct tools..

If you're set on a deep carry clip, there are a number of solid aftermarket choices.. MXG Gear is a good one.. as well as the option to order replacement clips directly from Benchmade for $10 a piece. You may be able to find some aftermarket thumbstuds on etsy or the like.. I'd be sure to verify the fit with with the seller prior to ordering based on the studs seating into the scales when closed..

Actually that’s not true. I called before sending in my knife and they said if I sent my knife in for service, if requested, they would substitute the deep carry clip. I requested one with the knife, but they failed to replace it. They are now mailing me one.
