Anyone ever purchased one of these monoculars from Countycomm?

http://www.countycomm.com/optics.htm

They look interesting, but based on the price one would expect that they are probably not much more than a toy?

I just wondered if anyone had tried one.

Thanks,

Yep, I picked one up. It's of surprising quality for $10. Not that it's a zeiss or anything, but is noticeably clearer and sharper than other comparably priced optics and optics costing 2 and 3x and more of the price (which isn't saying lots, but still). Nice and pocketable.

You'll want a different case for it if you want to carry it frequently. The supplied case is awful. Go to a GOOD camera store and bring the monocular with you to find a good fitting replacement case. Either a very compact camera case or a media case for SD and other memory/batteries should fit it well. It will probably cost as much as the monocular did, but this monocular is worth it.

That is a cool webstore, another plus from this forum as I knew nothing about places like this before I hit this forum. I will be buying from there shortly for sure.

Dang, those would be pretty awesome for caving. I may have to look through my drawers for loose change....

I got that monocular also. The only problem with it is what I expected with that size and that power: the field of view is very restricted. You don't get much peripheral view, which means it takes a little practice to aim. But it's got very smooth action, so it's a one-hander, focussing it.

Phil's right about the supplied case. It's hardly more than a dust cover.

I got one too.

It doesn't work very well if you wear glasses, due to the tiny outlet diameter (as Esav mentions).

It also doesn't have the best magnification -- really, just a touch more reach than your normal eye could see from my playing with cars and license plates.

For the price, it's a fun toy.
