When it comes to conventional or common wisdom the majority of people have similar experiences and results given similar sets of knife designs and materials while there are always a few who go against the grain of the common experiences of the majority. I find that it is always the same set of people who proclaim different results from the majority.

I wonder, is this because of a different set of circumstances or just from a different set of preferences?

Do you have an example?

It might be that some people have certain likes and are set in their ways. It might be they have different needs than most. It might be they are trolling and just trying to upset people and get attention.

OT: Wow you have only been around for about a month. That is quite the post count!

Ex. for several posts a lot of people agree the supersteel (fill in your choice) is the greatest thing since flint knives. then a poster comes saying that he hates this steel and prefers some kind of steel that is not a supersteel and in his opinion and experience 1095 or some such is better.

PS. I also do some freelance writing and I have to spend a lot of time online. gives me time to post. :D

Different strokes for different folks....

Some people are just louder than others  :D

Everybody seems to freaking LOVE the Tenacious and the RAT-1... except me :barf:

As for WHY this happens, which is what you seem to be driving at..."Who knows where thoughts come from, they just APPEAR!" :p

When someone doesn't like a steel that everyone else does it probably is because they don't know how to sharpen or because they use their knives as a prybar or screw driver and break things.

Sometimes it just has to do with how it feels in the hand. Everybody's hands are different.
