HOOORAH! Got my sword just in time for my 40th birthday. What a treat, the "deluxe" scabbard is very striking in appearance, the scans do not do it justice. The balance of the sword is perfect for me, somewhere between the very point heavy tameshigiri (sp?) or cutting swords and the very light bladed swords used in most iai-do styles. The fit in the scabbard is excellent as well. I am exceptionally pleased with this weapon, and once again blown away by the "value vs cost ratio" on HI products. I have only one negative, and it doesn't effect me much, since I have my blades out for practice and cleaning almost constantly when they are new. But the scabbard "sweated" a lot the first 24 hours. When I first drew the sword, I noticed beads of water running off the generously oiled blade (thanks for the heavy oil in transit, as the blade is completely unmarred). I placed the scabbard in the display rack while I defeated the large band of imaginary bandits who often attack my back yard. When I returned, there were beads of water on the outside of the scabbard. I set it in front of a fan without the sword in it, letting the air blow into the opening, and swabbed out the inside with a rifle cleaning rod. next day it was bone dry and has shown no sign of more moisture. This may just be local climate, or something that happened in transit, but I thought I would mention it, since many people have large blade collections and may not get a chance to play with the sword in time to prevent some moisture damage.

I think Reno was about 90 degrees with 5% humidity the day we shipped that katana, Jack. I don't know if that had anything to do with the moisture problem or not but I am very happy the oil coating of the blade protected it! Thanks to our shipping staff of Yangdu, Vikash, and Chokpa. Once in awhile they do things right!

And, many thanks for report from the field.

That is the best kind always!

And, as an afterthought I felt I should put this info in, too. For those waiting don't get upset. Jack was on the prepaid wait list and the prepaid receives theirs before COD.

Congratulations both on your Everest Katana and your birthday.

I also have ordered a katana, and am looking forward to it.

The moisture may also have been caused by airplane, if that was the case, after departing from Uncle Bill's. Leather can absorb a lot of moisture. But you know that Uncle Bill has the knowledge to protect the blade.

Enjoy it.

Thanks Antonio! It may have been the dry air in Nevada and at altitude, then hitting the 90% humidity we had on that day that caused the moisture problem. It has not reoccurred. You will be impressed by this sword!

Uncle Bill, please relay to the Kamis responsible that I am humbled (again!) by their skill. For that matter, tell the Sarki who did my "upgrade" how pleased I am, as well.
