I need help deciding on one. There are so many choices I feel a little overwhelmed. I have a few specifications the knife should fit.

1) Blade length at or under 3"
2) Combo edge
3) No assisted opening
4) I would like to have a grippy handle rather than stainless/skeltonized
5) Would like a pocket clip
6) Under $50
7) Sharp on only one edge(how would you say that to sound more knife knowledgeable?)

Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

I would say get a small Micarta Inlay Sebenza. The serrated ones are rare, Neil at True North Knives has one. I have a large Micarta Inlay and really like it. CRK cuts the serrations in a v at the same angle as the blade and they are shapened as you would the blade.

He said for under $50. I would suggest that you look at Spyderco knives. May I suggest that you take a look at Delica or Endura.

Heres what I just found. The Benchmade Mini Ambush. Its locking system is Rolling Lock w/ InDraft. Anyone know anything about this knife and its locking mechanism?

Also found Benchmade 556 with axis lock system. Suggestions?

As was suggested, get a Spyderco Delica or Endura. I prefer the Endura I've carried for years.

Spyderco Delica. I don't think you can get an Endura for under $50, and the blade is too long anyway- he said under 3". Also any of the Byrd knives that fit your size preference.

You could also spend just a few more $$ and get my favorite EDC the BM Mini-Griptilian. I carried a Delica for years before this though.

Cuchuga, I just went through almost the same buying decision as you. With the exception of the serrations and blade length. I ended up buying the Benchmade Griptilian and I am VERY happy with the knife. The blade action is extremely smooth and the axis locking mechanism is excellent.

I'd prefer the Spyderco Delica, Native or the Benchmade Mini Griptilian with that criteria.

I believe a trip to Wal*Mart is in order. The Spyderco Native awaits thee. Be not decieved, neither fall into forbidden ways, but walk in the straight paths and become one of the Sons of Light.

And stay thee away from Gerbers lest thou be ensnared by the deceiver and walk in darkness.

Now go ye forth and faint not!

Delica would be my pick...but I would not pick one with a combo blade in this size. Chuchuga, I'm begg'n you to reconsider your choice of combo edge in a 3 inch or under knife.

I agree with IUKE12 on not choosing the combo edge on a 3" blade. My experience with even a 3 1/2" combo edge was that I did not have enough of either type of edge to really work with.

I like my Delica. I like my Native III better. Don't have the Mini-Ambush, but I've been looking at them with lust in my eye recently. Even moreso at the mini-grip. But it's above $50.

I like 3" blades. I find them big enough to do most things I need to do with an EDC, but not so big as to overly scare the blade challenged.

I think I will spend a little more and get the Benchmade Mini Griptilian. You guys think I should opt out of the serrations? Thats one of the things that isn't "required", so I could change it. I dont want to look like a commando(well deep down I do, but I dont want to freak anyone out;)), so should I stay away from the all black version?

IMO...stay away from the serrations for reasons mentioned above. Also, I personally prefer the naked blade for a user because I don't like the way the blade looks at he coating wears away.

spydie delica

it is the best cure for knife buying syndrome.

I have not bought another folder in a while.

That's what I would do. I would also skip the serrations, unless you have a specific function in mind that requires them. The all-black version looks more 'militaristic', so I would look for an uncoated blade. And I think the opening holes are easier to use than the thumb studs.

That stuff is all personal preference though. If I were buying a Mini-Griptilian today, I'd buy this one:

Only $7 over your original budget too.

I have a Mini Grip so I'll chime in. I think it would fit your needs nicely. Mine is an older one with 440C blade steel and has the combo edge and thumb studs. I would change this if/when I buy another. I never, or rarely, use the serrations. As someone else mentioned the serrated section is too short to use when you really need it. I would also go with the hole instead of the studs. On more than one occasion with the knife clipped in jeans pocket the studs would grab the seam of the pocket and partially open the knife. I cut myself pretty good once when just trying to unclip and slide the knife all the way in my pocket.

Summary: buy the mini grip in the above link....maybe a different color :).

....maybe a different color.
Well, they do have a flaming-pink version. :D

Yellow would be good for outdoor/water use, easier to spot if dropped.

I don't think the black or olive green actually look bad, but might remind people more of a military weapon than a "pocketknife."

That's one of those things that's completely a personal preference, no difference at all in knife function or durability.

Best Wishes,
-Bob
