Every Enlan EL-01 comes with its own pivot tool!

Did you know that? I sure didn't, until I started looking around on the web for ideas on how to get the awful non-standard pivot screw off!

On another forum, I found someone propose simply using the EL-01's pocket clip, since its holes are spaced about perfectly for the "delta" pivot screw, and close enough for the older three-hole one. A recommendation was to use pins screwed into the pocket clip's screw holes.

Not having pins, I looked, and thought, let me simply try the pocket clip's screws themselves. It didn't work well putting them in the "correct" way, but reversing them, holding them down into the "delta" grooves with my left thumb, and using the pocket clip / "wrench" with my right hand to turn, allowed me to take the pivot screw out in about 20 seconds.

I was astounded at how well it worked.

If your EL-01 has the older "three-hole" version, you'll need thumbtacks or small nails instead of the pocket clip screws, though - the holes are simply too tiny. It will take longer, as well, as you'll have to keep adjusting, like a box wrench on every half-turn or so.

Anyways, I wanted to post this here, in case anyone else would like to do a simple adjustment on their Enlan or (better) an actual replacement of the odd-ball pivot screw. It's a shame a great knife like the EL-01 series is marred with that screw.

After getting off the awful screws, I found hardware at the local hardware store that works well:

(sorry for the poor lighting - it's a quick camera phone shot)

The hardware used is:

Hillman model 4419-F 5mm ID, 10mm OD stainless washer, and one's choice of model 3986-C M3x10 or model 3985-A M3x6 pan head Phillips stainless screws - Hillman makes an 8mm long version, but it wasn't carried. The 10mm is probably overkill, but it fits, and doesn't struggle to screw all the way in. A plated M3x5 fit an EL-01A but not an EL-01D, oddly - I can't see any distinction, but it's there, apparently.

A YouTuber has a kit available with a blackened Torx wafer head screw (no washer required), for those interested. I don't think I can post his store name or link here.

Thanks for the tip!

I did a search before posting for "Enlan pivot tool" but didn't see anything - maybe I just missed it.

(BTW, your location "code" intrigued me - I considered it a fun challenge - the capital of Indonesia? :))

You're welcome! Unfortunately the thread was shut down because of infraction.
I just feel that the Enlan discussion brought back old memories in that theead.

Two good sources for 3mm screws are Knifekits.com (find screws under "Knife Making Parts), and Metricscrews.us

I use both companies. Knifekits.com has two different 3mm torx head screws, and Metricscrews.us generally has philips head.

Metricscrews.us has a wide variety of screw sizes, heads styles, and lengths, and the nice thing about them is you don't have to buy a pack of 50 or 100 screws like some online screw vendors. They sell screws individually.

I'll check these vendors out, thanks!

Due to a postal service delay (surprise), I haven't gotten some other parts I'm expecting for a variation on what I've done with the EL-01s so far. More on that later, after they arrive.
