Everybody Loves Raymond?????

Last week when I was not actually logged onto Blade Forums, I turned on the other idiot box and tuned into the sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond".

There was a scene where Ray's brother was in the hospital after being injured in the line of duty. His father began to inquire how it happened. The dialog went as follows:

Dad: Was it a gun?

Brother: No

Father: SWITCHBLADE?

Right there it hit me. The public and media's inbred and immediate negative perception that auto's are "assault weapons" and associated with wrong doing was in full view. His father didn't even ask if it was a knife.

Anyway, food for thought.

FYI, Ray's brother was gored in the a** by a bull (or should that have been an "assault bovine"?).

Stay sharp!

Jim,
It all started with the play, West Side Story!! Remember that famous snap of the blade?? Ever since then, I think, autos have been associated with the criminal element

Am I dating myself?? Hell, I'm only 41!!

A couple of big contributers back in the 50's to the fall of switches were "Blackboard Jungle" and "Rebel without a cause". After those movies came out you would have thought switchblades were old Patch himself. I guess they were the assault rifles of the 50's LOL.

Hey Guys...

Well if it wasn't a gun,,it must have been a switchblade...! Geez....

I highly doubt that Any criminals, carry a switchblade or for that matter have ever seen one other then the cheap Mexican imported junk.

Hollywood : "Lets be cool and put a switchblade in our movie!"

Yep!
You can most definitely blame the flaming liberals in HELLywood for demonizing the knife. They have WAY more power than they should have over the minds and hearts of America. And it's a DAMN SHAME!
Look at how they have set their sights on the one-handed folders. Spyderco's knives in particular. There are at least two video covers that have the maddog killer star of the movie brandishing a Spyderco. This has got to be Sal's private hell.
Have any of you ever heard of a Spyderco used as a murder weapon? I haven't.
What really torque's my nuts is the fact that the combat knife of choice for America's knifers is the common Steak Knife! One very seldom hears of a Bowie or a tactical or a one-handed folder being used for murder. Yet, when the talking heads on news TV report on a knife related homocide, there appears behind them the picture of the large, "menacing" Bowie knife.

Obviously, this monster of a knife was responsible for this reprehensable crime. (KILL THE MONSTER KNIFE!!!)Oh! But wait a minute! Did they just say a steak knife was the weapon? Can't be! Had to be the knife in the picture! They must've made a mistake!
The left wing liberal media is out to get your guns AND knives, people, don't make the mistake of thinking otherwise. If they have their way, you'll need government permission to buy a butterknife. And you'd damn well better be able to demonstrate the need for it. Land of the FREE...
I'll shut up now, but, I have a LOT more to say on this subject, so don't get me started, OK?

I agree with Miscue's rantings - afterall, I'm part of the left wing liberal media and I'd definitely like to have your knives! Mail me your Sebenzas first, then your Spydies and we can go from there. I assure you, however, that if I have my way, you won't need permission to buy a butterknife.

It still kills me that I can go to Walmart and buy a shotgun, but I can't buy an auto at my local knife dealer. Where's the consistency there? I can carry a non-concealed fixed blade of 5 1/2", but I can't carry an OTF of 3 1/2" (or a side opener for that matter...)

I will have to admit that those Italian switches do make me think of leather jackets, and greased back hair...

But then again, I'm not a knee-jerk reactionary either...

Jeez, Elvis, don't tip them off about Walmart. That fat talk show witch will go after them now that she's been let go by K-Mart. Also, wait until the pictures of the murder knives used in the Atlanta double homicide hit the 11 o'clock news.

It's always darkest before the dawn. So if you plan to steal your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.

Actually, mnblade, maybe I should have stated it's the left wing liberals in government that want the people to be gunless, knifeless and needing to demonstrate need to purchase a butterknife. My boo-boo. Sorry.

So, are you dyed in the wool LWLM or merely playing the game to fit in?
smile.gif
No need to answer if it is too personal.
I don't know many, if any, liberals that have any interest in knives other than they feel no one should be allowed to have them on their person anywhere, anytime.
Of course, as you may have gathered, the LWL's I know are all hoplophobic and/or belenophobic to one degree or another and feel totally (irrationally) threatened by the mere presence of someone carrying a knife on his/her person.
It's actually quite refreshing to hear of a member of the LWLM being a knife nut. Perhaps there is hope for the world yet!

BTW, No you can't have my Spydies!

Misque:
Regarding politics, I like to think of myself as fiercely independent. That said, however, most of my positions on the "issues" would classify me as the dreaded L word (for instance, like Clinton, I'm hoping to lick Bush in November). Still, I'm a full-on knife nut. You're right, perhaps there is hope for the world yet!

I'm as conservative as can be and I'm not too keen on Bush either.

L-word.
