Everyday Fixed Blade Knife

Hello,

The title says it all; I’m looking for an overall use fixed blade knife with a blade between 4 & 51/2 inches. Not looking for a chopper, sometime for use around camp, survival situations, and skinning large game like Colorado Elk. Edge retention is key here and I can sharpen just about anything. Considering so far:

Rat knives RC-4
Fallkniven Forest Knife
Zero Tolerance ZT 100
Benchmade Griptilian fixed 151 (154cm)
Benchmade Nimravus (154cm)

Any other options??.....Non custom please. Thanks, Robo
 
I have the Benchmade Nimravus -- both the full size and the cub -- and while I it is one of my favorite knives for self defense purposes, I would not choose it for an all around outdoors/survival knife. I also have the fixed blade Griptilian, and while it would be a better choice, imo, for an all around knife, it doesn't quite feel right in my hand. The price is right, though.

There are lots of knives out there that would technically fit your requirements, and to me it boils down to a matter of personal choice. For me, it would be hard to find a better all around knife than my Swamp Rat Howling Rat, although my Bark River North Star would be a close second -- but I wouldn't feel ill equipped with any of 20 or so other general purpose fixed blades I own. A good economical possibility would be the Cold Steel SRK.
 
they have been using puukos for hundreds of years
same shape with little changes... been tested thru time

2007 colorado 3rd season hunting i had a puuko and didnt need anything else to use
had others, just because, with me but didnt need them
did up my deer just fine
and anything else i wanted

buddy of mine used my other puuko
he is born and raised in CO and has hunted all his life
i still havent gotten it back ;)
he doesnt want to give it back ;)
says he does but
and you can get them rather inexpensively on the net

personally i would go with the high carbon or triflex for the less expensive ones
triflex is not laminated but better than hc
the one that my buddy has was the hc version
