First I would like to say hello to everyone I am a new member.. The short version of this post is that I lost my everyday carry knife and am looking for something new. I used to carry a benchmade 710 (lost) or a Mel Pardue Tactical which I have decided not to carry any more.

So the question is which knife would you buy to carry everyday?

Also are the Microtechs really that good? I am considering purchasing a LCC D/A for the case.

Thanks in Advance, John

Welcome, Ropes4u!

Everyday carry is different for each person. Depending if you work in an office, a warehouse, outdoors, etc. Based on your previous knives, I am guessing a 3.5 + inch blade is what you are looking for.

I can't speak for the LCC but the other Microtech's I have had were top quality. None were autos, thanks to restictive state laws, however.

Of course, that 710 is a hard knife to top. It is an incredible value.

There are also some other great custom or semi-custom knives in that price range. A large Sebenza from Chris Reeve is a no frills but bulletproof knife. For a little more a Tom Mayo TNT or Darrel ralph Apogee might be up your alley.

Whatever you decide, let us know which one you pick!

I have owned both manual and double action LCC. They are very nice knives. Very close to custom. Quality is top noch. My good friend carries one and uses it every day and has had zero probs. Do a search on LCC and you will not hear anything bad.

Rope4u, First off .......Welcome!

For EDC I prefer knives that are "cost effective" to use (inexpensive).
I also prefer a multi blade knife something NONE of todays "tactical"
knives offer. While that may seem old fashioned it is emminently
practical for daily chores. I also carry more than one knife as no
one knife can do everything.

I carry a large stockman for utility and lockback for strength. Some
combination of SAK, stockman, trapper, jackknife and a lock blade
knife of your choice makes a whole lot more sense that just a one blade
knife. Throw in a multi tool of your choice and depending on where
you work and what you do for a living you will be set.

Good luck on your search ,mate.

P.S. Auto knives ,while they have a very high "Toy" factor , are for
all intents more trouble than they are worth. Not only are they trouble
trying to carry one and the law they are unreliable simply because they
are more mechanically complex than non- auto knives. A good spyderco
or thumbstud one hander is better if speed is what you need.

I agree with Tightwad that just one knife won't do it all. I like to carry a Leatherman, at least the Micra and sometimes the Supertool, and I have a Wave on the way.

You can't go wrong with a Microtech for quality and strength. An LCC might be big for some jobs. I like the SOCOMs myself.

You don't have to spend as much if you browse our Exchange forums, especially For Sale: Production Knives (Individual). Guys selling off excess personal inventory can give you a good price and let you know what condition the knife is in. Use the search button at the top of the page and you can call up posts with just the knife you're interested in. Check out the The Good, the Bad, the Ugly to see who's been naughty and who's been nice (don't buy from Simon McGlynn :D ).

Welcome aboard!
