Everyone enjoying their Labor Day?

I'm at home but my wife is down at her Dads house cleaning. Her Dad and step mom had a car accident and everyone is pitching in with the chores till everyone is ok. Its just me and the boys. Nice day out though. I hoped to go to the shooting range today but I guess thats not gonna happen. Oh well.

Beautiful Day here!!!! It's just now 82* with the heat index the same instead of being 15* more thanks to the rain we had last night and the cold front that brought it.:D

We went to the zoo again and walked 2.5 miles, took a few pix and will try and get them up tomorrow. The NiCad batteries that I charged to a full charge a few months back set and lost their charge, wasn't aware they did that, and now I have to charge them up before I can upload the pix.:grumpy:
Good thing there was enough charge in the AA 1.5 volt throwaways to get a few pix.:D

Lessee. I went hiking Saturday, so resting today... grabbed some garden tomatoes and made a sandwich, sat out in the sun to eat it and read a good book...

Sat around this afternoon reading William Gibson's new novel Pattern Recognition (Terrific, as usual!) Gonna fire up the ancient Weber in a few minutes and smoke some ribs for this evening. Favorite pig-out meal :D

15,000 piontsettias on the benches, and I'am only half done spreading and spray staking them. Every day is "labor" day. My back hurts. I wish the plants would take a day off! :p

Yeah, NiCads are horrible for digital cameras. If you use the camera a fair bit, pick up a set of NiMH AA's (Nickel Metal Hydride). If not, get lithium AA's (or, if your camera can use it, a CR-V3 lithium pack). NiMH's still have a memory, but it's much less than NiCads. Lithiums are significantly better, but there are no lithium AA rechargeables yet that I know of, so they work best as backup batteries or as primary batteries for infrequent users.

My bad Chris. I was mistaken, assumed they were NiCads but they are the NI-MH.
So are these the best for a dig camera?
They are Sony batteries for the CyberShot, says CyberShot right on them.
I really like the little camera, it's not only Polish proof, it is ndn proof as well.
Couldn't make much sense outta the directions so I just set down and played with it for a while.
I like the point and shoot feature, it's better than my old 35 mm Mamiya Siekor!:D
I put the batteries on charge as soon as we got home. I figure that 12 hours oughta be a full charge?

Yvsa,

If you're using the batteries and charger that came with the camera, then 12 hours should be fine, though I think Sony specs the charger out around 16 hours or so, IIRC. That's the charger that charges 2 AA's at a time, right?

Sony designs their p&s AA digitals so you can't use a CR-V3 nonrechargeable Li-ion battery, but you can still use nonrechargeable lithium AA's if you don't do a lot of shooting but want your batteries to be ready to go when you pick them up.

If you use the camera a fair bit, it's cheaper to stick with NiMH AA's. You may want to pick up a better batteries/charger set, as the one that comes with the Sony performs as poorly as a generic Real Ninja Killer Death Sword, Now Only $29.99!!!!!. :) Look for batteries higher than 2000 mAh, a charger that only takes 1-2 hours, and possibly one that has a cigarette lighter adapter or can handle 240v, depending on your needs. You'll notice that they'll last longer than the Sonys that came with the camera, and the fast charge is beautiful.

And don't believe the people who say that NiMHs have no memory. Any nickel-based battery will exhibit signs of what we call 'memory', but the NiMHs are a lot better than NiCads. You don't have to drain them before charging every single time, but try to drain them completely every 4 or 5 times you charge them.

And yeah, the Sonys are good little cameras. Digital photography is so much fun! :D

Thanks Chris.:D

I curled up in my recliner and slept for a couple of hours and sometime in that time the light went off on the battery charger so I guess they're all charged up. Didn't take as long as I expected at all!
I will check into the batteries and battery charger you mention. Having it chargable from a 12 volt power supply like a cig lighter would be a real big plus!!!!:D

with the family. Just put the littel one down fe rthe eve, and driking one of my bro's home-brewed stouts. The best!

"William Gibson's new novel Pattern Recognition"--ooh, I'll hafta check that one out, Bri. Is it in the same sort of "Cyberpunk" settings as Burning Chrome, Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive? Also, check oout Neal Stephenson's epic "Snow Crash" If you like that, read Diamond age, etc. He did one on Eco-terrorists called "Zodiac" as well.
