If it has gotten wet, I urge you to open it up immediately!!

today my flitz came (ordered it online), so I was finally getting those annoying rust spots off. But towards the handle end of the blade, it was a little difficult to clean, so I decided to pull off the handle and give the blade a better cleaning.

pulled off the grip and WOAH!

somehow or other, my torsion bar has gotten wet, and rusted considerably! (speedsafe still works fine) I cleaned and treated the torsion bar with flitz, but i just want to let everyone know that the blade isn't the only part that they need to worry about rusting.

bw, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just remember that these are pieces of machinery, and they need to be cleaned on a regular basis.

I'm glad I have access to plenty of Flitz at work. Great stuff.

I have seen plenty of liners rust on knives from just about any manufacturer. Luckily Kershaw doesn't consider it a void of the warranty to open up your knife to properly care for it.

ouch.............................did the rust erode the torsion bar any?

the torsion bar is totally fine as far as I can tell. It was just more of a visual scare than anything else. I certainly wasn't expecting rust of that volume when there was only a couple spots on the blade.

Thanks for the info. I must have a tinge of OCD, and I regularly clean, lube, and inspect all of my guns, knives, and tools after some use, so I've yet to run into any rust issues.

Curious, Bookworm, do you remember how long ago you got your knife wet?

In Arizona , if it gets wet (fat chance) wave it in the air for two minutes and all traces of moisture are gone. Make sure to reapply your hand moisturizer afterwards.;)
