I guess it's true--everything is bigger in Texas. Just got in this LARGE Colt Texas Stockman, #CT322 from that live knife show on TV. I believe this pattern is new for 2010, and at 4-7/8 inches closed, is the largest stockman I own. With some beautiful brown stag bone hafting (even has a little popcorn!), some nice swedges and long pulls, this is the nicest Chinese made slippie I've ever come across. Nice even grinds, way sharp edges and half-stops on all three blades, with pulls about a 6 or 7. Comes in the etched, magnetic closure, presentation box.

I know some of you guys own other patterns in this Colt line (Absintheur), so what do you all think of the BIG BOY?

She's a whopper, that's for sure.
Pretty, too.
Congrats!

black mamba - That's a pretty knife for sure.

Just some food for thought but some of the material used in China to make boxes (all types) contains acid. It may be best to store your knife long time out of the box and only put it in the box for display when showing it off etc..

What tipped me to this was a friend of mine who got a drafting set that had been made in China. He went on vacation and came back a month later to find the instruments in the box corroded. Turned out the box had acid in the box material.

This knife is a direct copy of the vintage IXL George/Wostenholm/Sheffield/England "Texas Stock Knife". was also copied in the 1981 Schrade-Wostenholm "Commemorative Stockman".
since i have examples of both of these and every other Colt in this brown bone series, i guess i have to get this big Colt too.

thanks for the acid box knowledge. i do'nt want this to go in wrong direction but look at the facts:chinese products
dog food killed our pets
lead in childrens toys
seleminum contamination
recent discovery of toxic concentrations of certain metals in products

Bigger is better:D

Now you need a sheeple-friendly companion blade to go with that bad boy. Like a Mini-Copperhead, or Mini-Copperlock. You do have more than one pocket after all, right? And don't forget - "Tejas" is Spanish for a "knife in every pocket", too. ;)

To me those newer Colt's look dern good! I wonder if it keeps a wonderful edge like my Rough Rider does! I can't get my RR to dull to save my life!

Dennis, of course you're right--we all need to be a little careful of Chinese goods.

I wonder if it keeps a wonderful edge like my Rough Rider does!

But to answer you and Peter Parker at the same time, these new Colts are made in the same factory as the Rough Riders, and by the same people--good ole Smoky Mountain Knife Works, in Tennessee. Same 440 (A or B) steel, same HT, same quality control, but a few more upgrades than the Rough Riders. Kind of like comparing Un-X-ld to Tidioute, in the GEC lineup.

blackmamba thanks for the knife info sure would like to see that stock in copper acrylic. i ca'nt even find a pic of one. my stock whitt. in burnt grizz & a stag true whitt [gec] came in yesterday. real purty!

Thanks black mamba! I know they're all made in the same big factory over there, but out of the several China made knives that I have tried the RR's seem to have a much better steel at least on this newer model!!

I don't think Germany is as big as Texas, but they make some big stockman knives over there, also. The little one is a 34OT, pretty much a standard sort of size. The other two are Carl Schliepper German Eyes. The black bone boy is exactly five and a half inches closed.

tongueriver that eye in worm groove bone & straight line marking are some of the best eyes ever made. the carbon will cut up there with some super steels. slicers not pryers.notice the sunk joints on that yellow celluloid.
