The Good News:
I will be wrapping up all the kukri-rehandle jobs I have accumulated and will complete them over the next month or two. Should make for some nice eye-candy. :D

The Bad News:

I will no longer be taking kukri-rehandle and custom orders. :(

(I *will* still continue to take knife orders)

It pains me greatly to do this...because as many of you know, I have had a lot of fun modifying kukris..."upgrading" so to speak. And I still have a few projects "up my sleeve" that are sure to knock a least a few socks off. :D :p

It was a labor of love....and the flame has almost gone out. The love is there, but the passion for taking on new projects has waned. Who knows...might return to it again.

My intention with this post is not to draw attention to myself and my work...rather, I think I owe it the forum, the Cantina and all of you - to bring the matter up here. This is where it all started for me. I owe a lot to a lot of people who have helped me along my way. To say I've "grown up" on the forum, would be a gross understatement.

But, alas, I have started to come into my own...and the rehandle jobs aren't part of my future business plan (hope that doesn't sound cold).

Anyway, to those who are already "on the list"...congrats...yours will be the end of a mini-era.

To everyone else...I hope I have helped inspire some of you to take a stab at these projects yourselves. That would make me happiest...to see the "next wave" of kukri-modders rise up.

It was a leap of faith when I first asked for 4 "volunteers" several years ago...for whom I offered to satin-finish and convex-grind their kukris for free. To you (and to my first paying customer who will remain anonymous) I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude.

Forgive me...I don't want to come across as "gushing"....just wanted to give a "heads up".

Lest anyone mistake my first post...let me be clear of two things:

1 - I have no intention of leaving the forum or forfeiting my support for bladeforums. This is not a "goodbye" post.

2 - I will *always* be a fan of the curved/bent blade. Its influence can be found in nearly everything I make...past/present/future.

Sad to see your khuk modding finish, but I'm looking forward to seeing the new knives you make :)

You rock Mr. Koster

Congratulations on getting too busy in real life to have fun Dan. I'm pretty sure that all *real* knifemakers have had to go through the same sort of growth.

Although I've never been in a position to get any of your stuff (and now that is going to become even less likely), I want to thank you for coming to my place for the Khonvention and showing a bunch of us how to do our own grinding. I've gotten kind of used now to folks coming to visit me and bringing a bunch of knives (all sorts) because they couldn't make them cut and the inevitable "...while I'm here, could you..."

Welcome to the Cantina Dan...pull up a seat.

You've certainly tought me a lot Dan. Much appreciated too.

You coming to Blade Show this year?

Good luck Dan in all that you do and many thanks for all you have taught and inspired us.

Thanks, guys.

Andy - yes, of course! :D

Just don't know my table # yet...

I am so happy I got my CAK and AK Bowie modded by Dan when I did, close to 2 years ago now I guess. My only regret is that I did not have a CAK larger than 15.5" to send Dan for the job at the time; he did such a great job with it that a matching 18" was looming in my head for later. (Actually I did have a couple larger, but the 15.5" had a truly horrible blem handle at the time and the others were well done by Bura and Kumar.)

Still, in the desert ironwood Dan selected and the copper subhilts they are truly striking, and a pair I will never part with.

Once Dan becomes super famous and is featured on the cover of Blade, you can bet these will sell for a pretty penny! :D

I wish I had some extra disposable income right now, as the K-Tusks he is doing are gorgeous. More for my wish list, in tanto _and_ drop point versions.

Thanks for letting us know what's up Dan, and glad to hear things are going well for you.

Norm

Thanks for sharing what you know. Your sub-hilt handle mod on an AK Bowie has been a true inspiration for me, and i hope to achieve a fraction of your skill in executing my future projects.

I think Lizzardbone's stacked handle is the way to go. Even with the traditional bolster! I think that would make a better khuk handle than almost anything I can think of.

TJ - I think your AK Bowie order made "the list"....did you send it yet? I have quite a few here....:o

I believe all are labeled...I'll double check.

Congrats Dan. Glad you are able to realize it, and take the step.

Not always easy to do either!

Andy, cool logo!
