Hello I am new to this subforum so please be paitent

I am 26 and surprisingly I have gone without a cellphone I never owned a cellphone but I have used my brother iPhone a lot now I am considering getting a evo 4g and joining my moms plan on sprint and getting a family plan contract

I am hearing that the evo is better for people that know about programing and stuff bur I want it because of the better camera and flash support ( plus I think Steve jobs is a pretentious a**hole but that's just my opinion) so that's why I out right refuse to by a iPhone 4 plus my bro owns one and I don't like it that much

So can I get some thoughts

I love mine but you should check how the Sprint service is in your area and maybe look at online reviews and visit related forums. I have never owned an Iphone so I cannot comment on them. I do know the images are more vibrant on the iphone4, but I'm not a videophile so it doesn't bother me. Also, the battery life was not great out of the box. I was able to go all work day (8+ hours) with wifi and gps off and 4g on sometimes, with light-moderate use but had to recharge right after work. After turning of the background sync and auto syncs it improved greatly (12 hrs light-moderate use). I recently got the seidio extended 3500 mah battery and I can go 3 days with light-moderate use without charging (I don't facebook/social network but do sream video frequently so take that for what it is worth).

The froyo update will get you your flash but the froyo has mixed reviews and some bugs but I haven't had any major problems. You can sync your itunes music and videos with an app on the android market or use handbrake and other software to convert the files (just takes a lil know how and patience for the video but easy once you get it down). Mine is not rooted but once rooted you can take advantage of the free tethering and access the net on other devices. I just opted to pay for the tethering and the unlimited data plan. Works for me and has helped when my home connection took a crap on me. All in all my experience has been good. I know the iphone is supposed to be THE phone but the evo and android market are pretty damn good and getting better. I can't see how aside from very minor differences one is ultimately better than the other since they both have set backs and any app made for one will likely be adapted to the other in the future (example Netflix). Only thing to maybe sway me if I had to do it again is the fact that jail-breaking the iphone is now legal and allows you to get with any service provider you want. In the end it just comes down to preference. I prefer the features of the evo and the Sprint service and the way everything runs. Hope that helps.

I just got back from Sprint last night and talked to a technician who was actually very knowledgeable, it was surprising. Anyway, he said that Sprint is only offering 4G service in California right now, but there are plans to release 4G nationwide at the beginning of the year, and 3G is also capped at 5gb/month, whereas 4G will be unlimited, if you plan on using Wireless Tethering for internet. Secondly, the technician mentioned and actually had a model available of the HTC EPIC, and while it was almost the same size as the EVO it felt considerably better in the hand. Night and day difference between the two because of the smoothed corners and the overall shape of the phone, it had a different (read: more comfortable) pocket presence. Same price, and will be released at the end of this month. Both have 4G capability and when it's offered nationwide both will simply switch over, but for now everyone outside of Cali is 3G he said.

Just something to think about.

Well that works because I won't be getting a check till september 15th.

I have a online tshirt shop to make me extra cash I can spend on neat gizmos and knives and watches

Well, I wouldn't pay much attention to what he said just based on that. 4G is in 45 markets so far, all over the country. You can see the cities at the "See 4G Cities" link on the bottom of this page.

That EPIC does look pretty sweet though. I still want an Evo, if I can ever find somewhere that has them in stock.

Oh snap, I take that back. The EPIC has a full keyboard! I hate screen keyboards, so that is a huge plus for me. I might have to go see if I can get one on release day.

I really like mine.

Make sure you know that they charge you $10 per month to have the phone and all 4G phones will have this charge which IMO is a BS charge. If I got 4G then I might not care but it is not even in the state that I live. I have also bought the phone twice and my fiance bought the phone and the sales person never mentioned the charge during any of the 3 purchases. We had to find out about it by looking at out bill.

The sales guy that sold me my current EVO said sure you can bring the phone back if you have another problem. Then after I signed the contract he mentions the $35 restocking fee. Just know that the sales people are only trying to get you to buy a phone and will tell you whatever it is you want to hear. Do your research before you get to the store.

If you buy an EVO now they come with 2.2 installed on them. The 2.2 over the air update royally screwed up my last phone which is why I returned it. The 2.2 also has worse battery life than the 2.1.

The battery life will last me 8-12 hours of moderate use and 24 hours of light use. My last EVO with 2.1 was getting close to 48 hours of light use. This is using an app called Juice Defender which turns off the data connection when the screen is off and greatly increases battery life.

The actual phone works really well and works a lot better than other Android phones I have tried. It is definitely one of the best phones out right now.

I just got the Epic a couple of hours ago. I'll update on my thoughts soon. I have to say that off the bat I love the keyboard!

Right now I am leaning towards the epic 4g but I would like a good break down of it's camera function

I do love it's dedicated camera button on the side

How it measures up to the evo the clarity the speed the sharpness

Just a review of it from a photographers POV if that makes sense, I am also buying it for point and shoot reasons not just entertainment

I've been on Android for about 1.5yrs and I really like it. There are definitely some issues with programs working and such (granted I am still on 1.6), however, all in all it does everything I need.

To your question, if I were to get a new Android phone today I would have to say that I would go with the Droid2 by Motorola. Not only does it have a great looking scree, fast processor and a physical keyboard it also has some pretty good battery life. It really comes down to how much you want to pay for a plan though. I would say the Epic over the Evo if you go with Sprint and Droid2 definitely over Droid X on Verizon...with Verizon having a stronger network at a higher cost.

I went and checked out the Epic today and have to say I like the Evo better. I could still switch to the Epic but from what I saw I will stay with my Evo. The Evo is Sprints flagship phone and is supposed to be their Iphone killer. The Epic is nice but I don't think it is quite as refined. I was not able to sign into the epic to see how well everything is integrated together but looking at the very small amount of Samsung software on the phone I would think it will be basically the standard Android environment. HTC has a lot of software including their Sense software which adds quite a bit of functionality. I think you will get a great phone with either but I think I would personally like the Evo more.

Well I just got to play around with a epic 4g today the keyboard has a nice layout and feel I also like the push of the buttons the screen wad really nice and clear with bright vivid colors I even dropped it and it was fine with no scratches I just wish I remembered to test the camera
