After lurking and reading around the forums I finally made up my mind. When my BK2 arrived it was my first real knife. It was all black and brand spankin new, but it didn't stay all perty for long.
After seeing all the pics here I started diggin the stipped look. My first mod was to strip the blade and give it patina using apple cider vinegar. I let it soak a nice long time and got a dark patina (sorry no pics). I kept it that way for a long while until I decided to try and convex the blade.
Well I got a bunch and sandpaper and spent several hours working the edge. My BK2 got wicked sharp -- ok not so much. I finally gave up and got an edge back with my sharpmaker, but on the plus side I removed a lot of the shoulders which really helped I think. Since the sandpaper had started polishing off patina I just did the rest of the blade and left the handle.
Ok, so onto the exciting part (for me at least). Before my convex attempt, I got tired of my BK2 and I even thought about replacing it. But I've recently renewed my appreciation for the 2 and decided to give it a little upgrade
So a couple packages in the mail later...
I like the micarta but the spec ops sheath feels bullet-proof and has really impressed me. I know micarta and a spec ops sheath is nothing new to a lot of you here, but his really got me excited and I just had to share (I know how you all hate pics of Beckers).
Thanks for looking.
