Good afternoon. I just joined the forum today. I"m an old retired guy in northern Wisconsin where my father, brother and myself and ancestors on both sides either logged all the time or part time. I got into fixing up old axes and misc, tools a few years ago because I had time and the history of the items interested me. Well since that time axes and assorted other tools keep falling in my hands and some of them I can't find any info on. That's my reason for joining, "knowledge".
Today I changed oil in my brothers widows JD mower. She gave me an single bit axe head stamped EX-704 on the side of the poll with an X on the back and with what appears to be 2 1/4 on the front. It's in good shape, but I can't find any info on the net. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to forum. I hope you will be able to share some stories about your family's logging days!!!
We need pictures, but first thing that comes to my mind is Wetterlings EX line of axes

Thanks for the reply. I have been investigating the Wetterlings EX connection the last few minutes. I have not found this axe as yet. I just put it in some vinegar to see if anything turns up later. What I thought was 2 1/4 on the front of the poll is not actually readable as it has been hammered on. It looks like some kind of logo but is small and battered. Sorry I don't do pictures. I'm a flip phone guy yet. On another note I just did up a MWH Hardware Hand Made single bit I got from the same lady. I think they are pretty rare. Dog

Length 6", 2 3/8" wide poll, 1" thick poll, 3 3/4" edge, eye 2 1/4 x 3/4", weight 2.07 lbs. Looks like a Michigan pattern. Thanks, Do0g

Are there ridges in the eye and traces of red paint on the head ?
Because I'm thinking maybe a TT KELLY woodslasher.

Are you certain it is a zero? I oddly enough saw an EX 7G4 last night while surfing for axe heads.
It's definitely a zero. -EX.704- There is a very small stamp on the front of the poll above the eye that looks 2 water waves with what appears to be a 4 connected to the waves. Someone has taken a hammer to the end of the axe and beat the hell out of it. I carefully filed it so I could make out the mark and that's what I came up with. A plain X stamped on the back of the poll. Thanks, Dog
