I posted a question on this board previously, asking if anyone uses a knife holster, or knows of anyone that makes a good one. Since I wear a suit daily, the practice of wearing a folder clipped to may pants is impractical to say the least. I also went on to mention that I use one made by Robert Mika, a former LAPD cop who relocated to Wisconsin. Since my EDC's have gotten larger over the past year (I've gone from a Benchmade to a SERE 2000), I've found that the holster I've worn so long in my back pocket is being strained to accomodate the larger knife. I figured I had better get another one, if not from Robert then from another maker.

I had no website listed in my database for Mika's Holsters, and so called Robert today to ask about a new holster, and a website. BTW, the first time I called him, I asked him if he went by "Robert", or "Bob"? His response:"Either is fine...call me @**hole if you want." I call him Robert. Anyway, he let me know that he's back in law enforcement, as the Chief of Police of Viola, WI (small town, to say the least). He's still making holsters, and also has a website that was built by his son.

I'm posting this to let others know that I have no connection with Robert whatsoever, but will be ordering another of his "Pocket Knife Cases" to accomodate my larger folders. I haven't even checked the price yet. All I know is that the one he made for me about 4-5 years ago is still working like new, and IIRC, the price was very affordable. Give this guy a look. geegee

God you guys reply fast

Hey, calyth, we aim to please! We're as fast on the answer as Mika's Holsters are fast on the draw!

Seems like I need to get one of the holsters too ;)
I was watching the post, then refreshed, someone answered, then hit reply, the you answered ;)

OK, Mika makes beautiful holsters, but they use up a whole pocket! I'm just curious regarding your problem with a clip. I wear a suit too, and I carry a small one hander (small seb., dragonfly, mouse, etc) clipped IWB all the time without problem. Jacket certainly hides the knife, and even when the jacket's off, the clip goes under the belt. Its been years, and no one has ever noticed my knife.

Esav Benyamin: Thanks for the help, Amigo!

Matthew: Personal preference I guess. I tried the belt clip style carry you prefer, but in the end the pocket holster won out. I found that a larger folder clipped to my belt was more uncomfortable (especially with all the time I spend in the car), and the pocket holster added a feeling of dependability and consistency. geegee

geegee, glad to help! Nice work he does. I like that notepad cover.

Matthew, I know what you mean. On the job, wearing a suit, I carried a small Cold Steel folder IWB and never had a problem. Of course, the handle was very thick checkered zytel, so it had no tendency to slip or shift.

Now I carry a Sebenza or similar-sized folder in my right front pocket, clipped to the edge, and I have no problem with sagging or with anyone seeming to notice -- but I'm retired now, and dressed so casually that if I had a machete tucked away I doubt they'd notice :)

A.G.Russell sells a small fixed blade that he makes a leather pocket holster for. I can see it being pretty comfortable in a pair of jeans.

I was carrying my CUDA Maxx in my back pocket this evening. Now that might profit from a holster holding it in place. That pocket holster wouldn't preclude a handkerchief in the same pocket, either!
