This is just another example of why I stay with Buck Knives.
It is a 1969 3rd/8th that had a loose pile side cover. I was going to fix it myself, but decided to send it back to Buck for warranty service.

I mailed it to Buck three weeks ago and described how the pins didn't hold the cover once the glue broke loose.
It came back to me in the mail today and has a new life with lots of good, useful years of service left.

The photos show the loose cover before I sent it in, then the way I received the knife today. The cover would actually come right off the knife.

I've only sent three knives back for service (that's about .003% of the Bucks I've owned) and each one came back in excellent shape.

This one was 46 years old!! How many other companies stand behind their product like that?

Thank you Buck Knives…you have a customer for life!! :)

The cover would come right off once the glue let loose if you pulled straight up on it.

The rear pin missed the liner and hit the glue hole. I imagine that's where the trouble began over the years of use.

This is the way I received it today. There was a small plate added to the liner to catch the rear pin.

Thank You for posting about this particular knife.
It is from my birth year!
I have been wondering which version/variation would be the one, and was going to ask at some point.
Now I know what to look for when i begin searching for it :)

I have a few that I need to send in fairly soon for warranty or spa work. Your 110 and the work Buck has done on it is a great example of why I also buy and collect Buck Knives.

A true 1st class American company.

Three week turnaround now that is fast. I will have to have you send in any repair work I need done ... never had a turnaround that quick. ;)

Beautiful - thanks for the nice story of the service our friends in Post Falls gave to you.

Great knife - love the old 110s

Stumps,

That turned out great! Did they use the original small brass pins or is that not possible on this type of repair? Also, you said once the glue broke loose, the slab lifted off. So the pins don't really aid in holding the slabs down, just side to side movement. Correct?

The pins do hold the slabs down. Buck used to use glue and pins.
The problem with this one…and the reason I decided to send it to Buck was that the rear pin on the pile side missed the liner and went into the hole with only glue.
This is the first one I've seen like that. I was surprised to see the size of the three oblong glue holes in the liner.

Yes, they did use the period small pins for the repair.

Bucks has the best customer service and re work guys in the knife biz.the last knife I sent in was a stag alaskan guide that was in need of a new blade because I let a fella use it to see why I brag the knives up so much,he in turn twisted the tip into the pelvic bone and snapped the tip clean off.i sent a check in with the knife(his money)and when it returned ,the knife was sporting a brand new blade, and the fit ,finish and lock up of this folding hunter is awesome, even after several deer and bear the blade shows no blade play at all,but to open it seems like the knife blade is on bearings its sooooo smooth!

Oh yeah….forgot to mention what was packed in the return postage with the repaired knife.:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks for showing your knife.
Buck's spa treatment delivers. I bought this 2 dot 110 new almost 40 years ago. It served me well for many years and got dumped in a foot locker. It was a mess. I used it to field dress several deer and one bear. It cleaned fish, hammered tent stakes and shaved kindling by the bucket full. I found it last year when my Dad passed away. I went to His house and found it still sitting in the bottom of the trunk all green and nasty with a wicked wobble. I sent it to the Spa and this is what came back. I never expected the bolsters to come close to this nice and I can't believe how nice the blade came back to life and the lock up is tight again. It's magic:)
Oh yea, they sent a 25% discount card as well.

Stumps, your old Buck 110 turned out great - congratulations. Wazu, pretty nice as well - nice knife. OH
