I just wanna send a "shout out" to Mr.Glesser. I just got a Lil' Temperance and think it's fantastic. Great little blade. I like the wide leaf blade and the feel of the knife in saber, hammer and reverse grip is very secure. I'm taking the little thing to Belize to Jungle Medical School in two weeks and will let you know how it works out.

Had mine for a while now and a great knife it is. Strong, tough, feels great in the hand. You will love it.

Hi Miketm, thanx much. It's in my EDC rotation. It's also my toy, so you will see refinment. Hope you enjoy it.

Sal,

Would there be any chance of thickening the pivot in future refinements? Let's say that some of us are bright enough to appreciate Spyderco Clipits, but ignoranat enough to want to pry with folders. With a thicker pivot, I'm told that the forgiveness factor is higher.

I would look at strengthening the way the scales and liners are held together. The small screws that thread into the stand-offs just don't seem that strong to me. I have no proof of this nor reason to doubt their strength, it just looks like an area that could be improved.
Take this for what it is: advice from the peanut gallery :)

 A "thicker pivot screw" or stronger liner screws!?! Heck, that li'l knife is already built like an M1A1 tank, how could you make it stronger!?!

About the only improvement of which I can think, and it is really minor, is to make it with a somewhat less carnivorous pocket clip. :D:

You could make it stronger with a thicker pivot screw and/or stronger liner screws for starters.

:p

My ATR has a similar shaped clip, but it's not pocketivorous in the least. It abuts a flat, titanium slab and the pocket clip has no "hot" or sharp spots. I think that sanding would save your pockets. Just check to see whether you'll be sanding the clip itself or the G10 underneath it.

I actually solved the "problem" by removing the clip and bending it outwards a smidge, as suggested by several persons on this Forum. It worked like a charm and it has not increased the likelihood of the knife falling from my pocket.

wow, follow-up on my Temperance.....I used it every day in the jungle in Belize. It was very secure in my front LEFT pocket while climbing thru the caves on my belly. The blade shape turned out to be ideal. The Mayan guides asked me for my knife whenever we stopped to look at the plants, vines, and trees. The thing never had a spot of rust. It was in the water with me about 4 hours a day. The lock got some guano and mud in it and never failed. The little thing stayed sharp. I touched it up twice to razor sharpness. Just to give you an idea of how the jungle is, I also brought a Cold Steel Master Hunter as my fixed blade. It rusted in the first twelve hours. Rusted right thru the shiny Carbon V, right into the blade. My little Spyderco kept on ticking.......as a matter of fact, the guides admired it so much that I made a gift of it to "Mario" my guide, a Mayan Medicine Man. You should have seen how the dude's eyes lit up. It was perfect. Tough to part with my Lil' Temperance, but I know that it's in good hands......

Miketm,
Good story. You should send it to spyderco.com They publish some of these stories (haven't seen a new one for awhile) and the users gets a complementary knife. Check out their website for more of the details.

Thanks....I e-mailed Mr. Glesser about the Belize Rescue Team. I really feel bad for these dudes. They have basically, nothing. Not only that, they told me that if they did order something, the package is opened by the government and the good stuff taken before it reaches them. I wish I had more to give them when I was down there. I'm planning on going back down in June and I'm gonna hand carry some medical gear and anything else I can scrounge. They have done several successful rescues in the last 6 months. You would not believe the stories. They don't use maps. No kidding. They move thru the jungle by "reading" it and by memory. I was impressed and I'm no slouch. I've been around, but these guys were incredible. My guide, Mario and I were in the "Footprint Cave" in the Cayo District of Belize. Mario says, "Ian, turn off your headlamp for a minute, then turn it on again"......I'm thinking, "uh oh....." so, I turn it off and count to 90. I swear I did not hear a thing in that 90 seconds. It was so dark, I couldn't tell if my eyes were open or shut. Then I turn my headlamp on....and......no Mario. I then see his headlamp come on about 75 yards away in this cave. He had crossed scree and a ledge with no lamp and silently.I'm thinking, "how the hell.....". That's how good these guys are.

Miketm,
Sounds like quite a bunch. If you get a care package together, let me know. I have a used blue 93mm rescue I'd throw in.

Miketm,

very nice review, indeed. I always thought that Lil'T has to be very good for outdoors activities including jungle) and survival (including SD). I tried to put my excitation about Lil'T in the following thread
Great knife, Sal.

I've always loved full flat grind blades, but not the lil temp simply because I don't like the colour of the g10 it uses. I think if it were in black, a lot more people would try it.

well, at least there's the paramilitary coming out soon....

Miketm,
MAybe we should try to get some items together, send a Spydie care package down. :)
Just an idea.

I think that's a great idea. I E-mailed Spyderco but got something back that asked me if I wanted to be a dealer or not. Seemed like a form letter, probably E-mailed the wrong address. If Mr. Glesser reads this, sir , could you possibly E-mail me? or give me an address I could reach you at?

...a program exists in this area for teaching kids to whitewater kayak. To get gear for the program, a donation program was established. Paddlers can donate old gear to the program, and get a tax receipt in return. The tax receipt isn't huge, but it has inspired lots of donations.

Could something similar be set-up for equipment/knife donations to this project? I have a couple of users that I would donate - receipt or not - but a similar program may inspire others.
