Having seen the Streamlight Stylus talked about in a few places (including Don Rearic's pages) I decided I ought to have a look at one.

Of course, being based in the UK, it isn't always easy to find something you want :(

I rang a UK retailer, got nowhere, and having seen the shipping charges [a lot of US retailers must have been badly burned - won't take cards, only ship UPS etc]I finally found somewhere to get the lights from (I got 2, in case I liked them:) )

The light is a tiny bit longer than a standard disposable ballpoint at 6 1/4" but is exactly the same thickness, so fits in your pocket easily. Very robust aluminium (or should I say aluminum) construction.

The light is *very* bright in the dark - and even in daylight throws bright light across a room.

Controls a bit like my P6 press to flash, turn to stay on. Uses odd 4A batteries, and has a good strong clip. While my photon II will stay on my keyring, this makes daily carry status.
[It's a bit more subtle than picking up a carabiner, Swisstech Microplus, Whistle, Traser glowring, Comtech Stinger]

Definitely a keeper.

For any Brits/Europeans that are interested, I got the lights from Scott at www.safe-t-lights.com - ordered Monday, arrived Friday - shipped global priority. *Way* less than half the UK price. What a shock.

Nice work mate, I've been trying to find a decent retailer for the Stylus for quite some time. :D

I suppose to be fair, I should say what I paid.

$13.99 per light. +$9.00 Global priority Mail shipping.

I carry a stylus at work

good for looking in throats

very bad for shining in eyes.......ouch!!!!

AAAA batteries are hard to find, crack open a 9V and you will a bunch inside

Those inside typical 9V batteries may be a little shorter and I've experienced some difficulty using them. BTW, Streamlight has redesigned the Stylus 3: it is now shorter in overall length. The Stylus 2 is no longer available.
The Stylus is one very useful light and is in use by several medical professionals I know. I carry one along with a Rotring 600 in my shirt pocket. The only weakness in the design is that the LED is exposed. I simply put a rubber cap over it when carrying it.

Try Ace Hardware and Radio Shack. I've found AAAA batteries there on a consistant basis. No 9V busting necessary.
