I know in theory how Damascus steel is made, but it comes all that clearer when a video is seen. I was so impressed that I'm having a knife made by the author that can be seen in the projects area of his website... Here's the video:

Mr. Gentile also said he makes khukuries, even in Damascus... My request has been for him to make a video on making khukuries. ;)

Thanks for posting Dan!

The video is a good idea... I'll see if I can bring my girlfriend to do the filming again (She's studying art... so has access to the school's film equipment ;) )...

any questions... welcome.

Porn for metallurgists!!!

Thanks for that.

I actually have a question: how do you make different pattern in Damascus Steel?

I believe that some of tha patterns are made by twisting the billet after it has been drawn out. There's a fantastic spotlight thtead at one of the other forums. I'm still kinda foggy on what the rules are about referencing other forums. I've seen a few people here mention 'the other forum' like it's not supposed to be named and I've seen other people reference other blade-related sites. Could some kind soul clarify this? If I'm alowed to, I'll post the link.

After off-line discussion on links to other forums, I will provide the link to the thread I mentioned to anyone who PMs or emails me.
