I give Tim Wright the credit to this as it was from an email he had sent me...:)

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can.

Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags.

Then try 50-lb potato bags and then eventually try to get to where you
can lift a 100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms
straight for more than a full minute.

(I'm at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

That actually made me laugh.

I've been doing Wii Fit Plus lately. Its no Ultimate Fighter workout, but for a 48 year old flabby guy, it ain't a bad starting place.

Well, I certainly fall into the age category.... However, that single static-resistence exercise may build some impressive deltoids at some point but not much else....

After my knee surgery last year (torn cartilage) I find I can still cycle pretty efficiently. I am trying to keep things in the low-gear high-cadence area at present....No difficulties.

I have also been hitting the gym here at the university and taking advantage of the fine suite of resistance machines we have. At present, I'm doing mostly leg stuff in an effort to stabilize that knee; extensions, flexes, toe raises, and squats.
Come the next couple of weeks, when I go on midnights for the Summer, I should have time to do a more complete workout.
For us older guys, aerobic is the most important (what they are calling "cardio" now), but almost everyone in the field thinks that some resistance/weight bearing stuff is important as well for bone health.

Adding to the above exercise, here is another
Gentle exercise for the more mature. I tried it, I liked it, you will too!

The older we get the more important it is to incorporate exercise into our daily routine.
This is necessary to maintain cardiovascular health and maintain muscle mass.

Always consult your doctor before starting any exercise program!

SCROLL DOWN.............

NOW SCROLL UP..

That's enough for the first day. Great job.
Take a nap and try and do this again tomorrow!
