Hello!

I'm a relatively new member here and looking to make my first post in the exchange forums (I'm a Gold member).

In reading through the rules, I noted a rule stating that we are not allowed to post anything that is illegal.

However I routinely see people stating a price for the item they are selling with the stipulation that price only applies for the PayPal gift option.

Selling an item and taking payment in the form of a 'gift' to circumvent the paypal fee is illegal. It also removes any buyer protection.

So what is the ruling on this?

Thanks for your time!

Illegal or a violation of Paypal's terms of use? There is a difference.

I routinely remind people that using the gift option is not only cheating PayPal, it also cheats the seller, who forfeits PP protection. What fools these mortals be!

So much simple to post a single price, whatever mode of payment is chosen.

But PP rules are not law.

The illegal rule would more than likely mean items such as explosives, chemicals that are classified as restricted, etc.
