Knifemakers, sound off, what has you EXCITED going into 2009

Me it's folders, I just made my first slipjoint as a Christmas present for my dad and I can't wait to make a frame lock (but I have to until my screws and pivot barrel's get here)

so, what's NEW and EXCITING for you?

I'm excited because I've decided to make the knives I want to instead of making 3449807 drop point hunters. Buyers seem to like what I enjoy making and are letting me play around with ideas and techniques. I'm excited about developing new skills and adding them to my knives. Mostly I'm just glad to be alive :)

I'm excited because i got the electrical upgrade i needed done so i can run 220 to my shop this next year, and then i can get myself a hydrolic forging press and start making more damascus =)

I have several barter trades that are working out to get me stone that cannot be bought without very deep pockets. A jade dealer and dinosaur bone dealer really like the stonework knives I am doing so I hope to keep this arrangement going for all 0f 2009.

In addition I have an engraver I have worked out a deal for engraving trades for my stonework's....

So, I don't need no stinin' money....

Last year we had a river drawdown (papermill dam repair) and I got a bunch of cow,
and horse leg bones, can't wait to start putting them on slippies. Supposedly that much of the bottom han't been exposed for 60 ish years and I went scrounging old slaughterhouse sites.
Ken.

Already have time off from the day job approved for Ashokan, have my shed which will be my smithy about half done, gonna start building a press, in the immortal words of Johnny Cash, "one piece at a time"
building a new bigger vacuum casting setup

I'm excited about the KMG that's now set up and running. I ground my first blade on it today, and I love the extra control of the variable speed, but it's going to take some getting use to grinding on a different grinder and slightly different height and angle. I had to fight this knife today.

I'm also excited about decreasing the number of orders I take (that sounds weird, doesn't it :) ) so that I can play around with other styles. I'm really looking forward to making some bowies, and maybe even playing with folders later on.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, been contemplating the same for myself.

my hands are already pretty effed up. My knuckles and all else have encountered all forms of sharpened metal for many a year. Bicycles are unforgiving bitches who can teach real pain. At least they're not red hot, that's why I will have to build myself a forge one day. So I can burn myself, too.

Hopefully, I will graduate high school and get my driver's license this year, I also am planning out a few knives in 1095 and may even try making a slipjoint or two.

Well, Wife starts the accelerated nursing program next week, so what I'm excited about is wiating for tax return time to get my shop a bit more indoors so I can work odd hours (I'm going to be home with the kids, which doesn't let me take 5 hours at a time uninterrupted in the shop)

Sometime in the spring I am going to go off and get a day or two of more intensive forge mentoring.

I have several projects that get me excited, too! I'm getting a lot of orders right now that are based on thoughts I've had of what I want to do!
