Exclamation marks on threads?

Hey guys Im new to BF, and this might be a stupid question but what do the red exclamation marks on threads mean? Is it to just to make a post more noticeable or is it like a red flag marking something wrong?
 
I believe it is an option for people to add to their threads to make them more noticeable.
 
King is correct.

When you start a thread you can add little graphics to the title (exclamation points, smiley faces, thumbs up, ect). Just decoration on the part of the thread starter.
 
Ohhh ok, I figured might be something like that since I think usually gold members and mods had them on their threads, I just wasnt sure. But thanks everyone for the clarification, much appreciated!! :D
 
This is what I see underneath the large text box where you put the content when you are starting a new thread, you get to choose from these to show up in front of your thread title.
