Exclusive model from two different stores?

I wanted a para3 and like M390 and found that combo at bento box and they list it as a B.B. exclusive. So I am thinking that knife is only avaliable there and nowhere else, a knife that is exclusive and only to be found at that store. I thought that is what a dealer exclusive is? Just now I see the same model C223GPBL para 3 for sale at country knives ( for a whole lot more $$ ). So my question is when is an exclusive model only avaliable to one dealer? Is this a play on words that I need to fully understand?

Not sure but it could be that one dealer ordered some from the exclusive dealer to sell on their website. It also could be a distributor exclusive and those could go to several dealers.

Dealer exclusive means only that dealer has an order with Spyderco for that specific blade setup. See BladeHQ and the jade G-10 scales and M4/HAP40 blades.

What likely happened in the case of Country Knives is they purchased a blue M390 Para3 themselves and are reselling it. What's even more strange is the description on the Country Knives listing talks about red G-10 scales.

I just looked at the information sheet inside the box of my Para 3 M390. It clearly states (in several places) that it's a Bento Box Shop Exclusive.

So I can only guess that Country Knives bought some from Bento Box and are reselling them.

That is the way I was thinking a B.B. exclusive like it says in the letter. But dayum, selling the same knife for almost $50 more from CK. I would be unhappy if I were to have paid that price from their store.

The Bento Para 3 with M390 blade presently selling for $156 plus shipping.
Why even discuss Country Knives pricing at this time?
They obviously purchased some inventory from BBS for their retail store.

FK

County knives is a retail store. Ive been there. Nice place, very nice owners. But they sell all their knives at full price not Map price.

Yeowzza, full price shop. Taking that bookmark off my list. I try to support a local store or even a brick and mortar shop not local to me if other members have good things to say about them. But I have too many knives I want to purchase so I will not pay full price.

You guys should understand that any dealer or distributor may commission an exclusive run through Spyderco of any model they want with a particular handle color/blade steel combo not used by anyone else. However, once said knives are produced by the Golden factory (or the Taichung factory, etc.), they go through a final quality check back in Golden and are sent out to not only the dealer's shop that commissioned them, but also to every other dealer/shop that either has several Collector's Club numbers assigned to them (or pre-arranged to get a larger portion of the total run to sell themselves). This is also done for distributor runs - distributors may choose one or multiple dealers that will "offer" their exclusive, but again all the other shops that get anywhere from 2-10+ CC knives (and usually some plain ones) will also receive and sell off their allotment. Country Knives is not buying knives from BBS, they are receiving them from Spyderco like all other vendors. EBay sellers like Belote seem to have a good number of CC numbers assigned to them. For Spyderco to say on the Edge-U-Cation sheet that the M390 Para 3 for example is ONLY available through BBS or its channels is frankly incorrect (and they know this).

I buy all my knives from New Graham Knives (as a CC member). NGK doesn't commission any exclusives, yet I'm able to get every single exclusive or sprint run from them (because they get an allotment of 3-5 knives of every model Spyderco releases, sprint, exclusive or otherwise...). Hope that helps.

Yup, I believe that there are 200 collector club knives made of every knife Spyderco releases. Spyderco does not sell them directly and when you register for the collector club you must pick a dealer to receive and distribute your knives to you.

For this reason some dealers end up with collector club knives to sell. Maybe the club member didn't want that knife or maybe the dealer's owner joined the club himself just to have some exclusive knives to sell. I think a few dealers have done the latter.
