I just started carrying my small 21 in a slip. First time carrying any knife this way.. The small is a good size for this type of carry, and gives the lanyard some (added) purpose..Not typically a lanyard guy. I like that it is buried in pocket, but ..takes two hands and could fall out w/ loose pants while sitting..

Im looking forward when my slip becomes worn/well used.

Any thoughts, likes/dislike on this style of carry?

Really just an excuse to see some well worn/loved slips/sheaths.

Hike 'em up..lets see those slips.

Been a leather slip guy since I started with knives...

Of course they don't look that pristine now, they are well used... [emoji16]

I've been curious about slip sheaths.

What exactly is the purpose/benefit of using one ?

Really just to protect the knife from all the crap in your pockets like keys if you have a knife you don't want to get all messed up. I use one for my CGG and my mnandi if I decide to carry it in my pants pocket instead of the shirt pocket. But for my ti and micarta CRKs I don't use one.

When I don't use a slip sheath...
I carry my Mnandi in my jeans watch pocket, and since it is all by itself I don't use a slip sheath for it. When wearing jeans I wear carpenter jeans, and I carry my bigger knives (CRKs and others) in the side pocket by itself.

When I do use a slip sheath...
I use the slip sheath primarily when wearing dress pants such as at work (and I have an individual CRK slip sheath for every one of my knives, CRK or otherwise). The benefit is it protects the knife from things like keys scratching up the handle, but more importantly due to the open back design it protects the blade edge from getting dinged up by keys, coins, etc. The sheath also protects other things like my cell phone screen/camera lens getting hurt by the knife. The sheath with lanyard sticking out is also easier, I find, to pull out of my front dress pants pocket than just the knife by itself.

First thing I do when I receive a CRK is remove the pocket clip. Which makes the slip essential for my use.

It also help keep the knife in a vertical position at inside the pocket at all times.

That's the first thing I do with my knives as well. I may have to look into to a slip sheath for my Umnumzaan.

Can these slip sheaths be used relatively comfortably in either the front or back pants pockets ?

Use one every day. For me, it eliminates unnecessary snail trails and wears the edges of the slabs nicely.

Where you do you get your slips from? I like the CRK sheath but yours look great.

but ..takes two hands

That's why it's a no go for me. When I need to use my pocketknife I often hold on to the stuff I'm going to cut with my left hand so I always prefer one handed draw and opening.

I also like carrying my Inkosi in a leather slip sheath. In fact, I carry other knives I own in a leather slip sheath. I have 1 large leather slip sheath, and 2 small ones.

I actually started to just use the skip after I got my mammoth clip. And I also started the use a lanyard at the same time. Didn't want to risk losing the mammoth bark on the clip.

Ice_man , where did you get those slips ? They look awesome.

The CRK slips are nice but the ones ice_man posted above look gorgeous.

I use a slip when carrying my annuals, but all other Sebenzas are carried cippped. I use the CRK slip, which fit well of course and break in nicely:thumbup:

I bought extra sheaths and keep a small and a large with my "users" and keep the "original sheaths" in their boxes.

Agreed..for work, need one hand draw/open...but for gentleman/Sunday carry..I'm liking it..slows things down..more deliberate, mindful movements...

Cough it up, ice_man...where you gettin' those beautiful slips?

Appreciate all the pics!
