Excuses For Use?

Actually I don't have to have an excuse to pull out a knife, sometimes I do it just to look at it :D ;)

Why not wait until you are in class to play with your knives?

I really like the different sounds they make when i flik them open so i do that even with out a reason just cuz its awesome. I also make it a point to use them in front of people so they see that they are very useful tools first and foremost and not horrible blood thirsty mankiller weapons of mass destruction.

Do any of you find all sorts of excuses just to use your knives? I am always asking my mom if she needs me to cut stuff up for dinner.

I probably did when I was your age. I wouldn't worry about it.
(nothing wrong with being your age BTW)
It's like when you first get your drivers license. You will always be looking for an excuse to drive somewhere. Later you look for an excuse not to drive.

^ Lol. I see that happening already. I got my driving permit two days after my 15th birthday. I have driven so much that my mom naturally sits in the passenger side of the car.

Now *this* is a very classy and thoughtful response. Nicely done, sir!

I stand outside with a sign ( Will perform Autopsies for FREE) so far no takers but I'm ready.

Never had to look for an excuse to use it, there are real world situations everyday that require the use of a knife, everything from the mundane, openin' evelopes, trimmin' a leather belt, to the unusual, like cutomizin' styrofoam packin' to ship stuff I've sold on ebay.

And ya know what, rarely do I get a second glance when I pull a knife out, (an appropriate knife).

Ya don't pull out a 6" CS Ti-Lite to trim a string in the middle of a DUI check point while doin' a sobriety check. :)

Don't worry Chris. With proper and responsible carry and use practices (including safety always), you will be fine. It's a good time to be a knife enthusiast, no matter what age you are. Find branches and try whittling the ends, try making it as smooth as possible. That is what I would do when I was starting out.

Totally guilty of this.

One of those packages with an easy to open perforated pull-string? Screw that, I'm going in through the other side. *sound of a knife flicking open*

Oh, a lovely golden delicious apple! You know, they're MUCH better sliced up... *sound of a knife flicking open*

etc etc

LOL, Been there, done that, and have the wifely "eye rolls" to show for it! :D

I used a necker today to peel spuds and a big chopper\slicer to rock over other veggies for soup.

I eat apples one slice at a time, off the blade of my Ti-Lite. I also clean my fingernails with it in public. And grin at passing children.
My bail is $5,000.

I pulled out my orange manix 2 today at work to cut open a box for a customer and as I was cutting the tape on the top he goes "damn that's a badass knife". Gotta say I had to smile a bit, and agreed with him haha.

But to answer the OP, I never really feel the need for an excuse. If I'm busy, I'll only pull the knife out for tasks which require it. But if I'm bored (such as now), I will pull it out and flip it open and closed repeatedly.
