I am looking for a belt like this to work out my right arm. I am wondering what it is called and/or suggestions on where to buy one.

Theraband.

Fitness stores.

Thanks.
I've used therabands before, and this seemed like a thick(er) rubber belt. (The therabands I've seen, are usually quite thin, even the heavy strength ones.)

They have lots of other stuff besides the thin latex bands.

I have a separated shoulder and back problems. I work with exercise bands so that my shoulder muscles hold the shoulder in place and to help with my lower back problems.
Google up: elastic resistance bands.
I use ones that look like these. The different colors are different strengths. You can close a door on the webbing with the handle on the other side of the door. That produces a setup like what you are showing in your picture.

Thanks, that helped clarify this. I need something non-elastic and all I've been able to find are stretchable materials.

In the meantime, I interconnected 2 leather belts, added some padding for a hand grip and am "hanging" it around one of the steel support poles in the basement. Seems just about the right geometry and proportions. (I thought it would be nice to get something like I saw at the gym-- and figured it would be easy to find online.)

BTW, nice sig line.:p and I hope the shoulder/back are doing better.

I'm not sure if its what you are looking for, but Google over the door pulley system for shoulder. They are basically nylon cord with a handle and a pulley that hangs over a door.

That might be a good place to start.

Interesting, good suggestion. I found those--not quite b/c I'm not working out shoulder, really a L ab/R side exercise.

I think I found something similar, only $220! (TRX PRO4)
The strap looks like seatbelt quality and in this pic it is attached to something solid like the pole in my basement. (I searched for "gym equipment hanging straps".) The lady on the right is doing something similar. At this price, I think I'll keep looking and use my belts. Still open to suggestions! and I guess I'll have to ask the guys at the gym...didn't know it would be tricky to locate.) Looks fun, no?

Yeah, they have something similar at my PT's office. But I used it for hip exercises (stability for doing some squatty things). They didn't have me use it for my shoulder. They used therabands for most of that.

They've got some similar stuff on "the big river" that is quite a bit less expensive but looks similar.

If you don't mind me asking, what type of exercises are you doing for your arm with this type of system?

No problem. It's basically a breathing exercise in 3D. Left abs versus R side of body, including between spine and R shoulder blade and (connected) R arm.

I think you nailed it with "stability" in your post above. I'm the moving part (my breathing), not the band. The band needs to be a fixed length.

ETA: will go fishing on river if this seems like a keeper.

Ah. Try Googling "seat belt webbing".
Inexpensive, pretty much as long as you want, and very strong.

Shoulder and back are pretty good these days. But it requires constant work. The shoulder is "separated" because the ligaments that hold it together got stretched. (landed shoulder first in a bicycle crash a number of years ago.) Once stretched, the ligaments never recover their original dimensions. So I have to keep the shoulder muscles toned so that they hold the shoulder together instead of the ligaments.

Will do. Looks easy to find.

I've heard that about loose ligaments, probably have a few myself and a few loose screws.;) (In my career having looser joints is an advantage, up to a point.)

My issues (reason for belt) stem in part from an old injury seen only in MLB pitchers and cancer patients (of which I am neither). (That took a several years to get diagnosed! Only 1 specialist had written a paper on this, and he works 5 miles from my house! After 5" with him, case closed.)

Currently, the guy who recommended this belt turns out to have been a collegiate varsity baseball pitcher (!), and he he knew exactly what I was talking about, everyone else gave me a blank stare. Fingers crossed.
