Exersize/athletic clothing carry?

I have always wondered what people carry when they are exersizing or wearing basketball/athletic shorts. I like to go on long runs(7-12 miles) and almost always do these at night when its cooler and I have finished all my other work for the day. Because I like to run in parks and secluded trails I often want as big a knife as I can for self defense. The problem is, I still have to carry a flashlight(although this can be on my head on in my hand) and a music player and sometimes my phone. Also, the bigger the blade, the heavier it is in the pocket and the more it flaps side by side as I run. I also have to consider steel because I sweat a lot and have rusted blade just by having them on me during a long run in the summer. That said I mostly carry a FRN FFG spyderco endura clipped to the inside of my waistband. Before I go I spray on a little wd-40 or rem oil or whatever is closest to me and I wipe down the blade as soon as I get home.

So....What do you carry for exersizing/running or do you even carry a knife?

P.s. I have toyed with the idea of a neck knife but I think that even something as small as a CRKT minimalist would swing around too much.

I would ditch the headphones if self defense is a concern. Back when I was in 15 min 5k shape I never carried anything since I figured I could run away from any trouble. Now that I just run for fitness I carry a Pacific Salt. The H1 steel is corrosion proof. I think they have a few hawkbill models in H1 that would be decent for self defense. I'm pretty sure I remember a thread on here a while back where a guy fought off two pitbulls with a Spydie Native lightweight.

I only ever have one ear in and always at the lowest volume level. even with one headphone in I can still hear well enough to hear people coming up on me. And self defense is not a huge concern but I just dont like being defensless anytime I am out at night.

+1 on the Spydie H1 steel, I carry a Salt 1, I'm gonna take up surfing and I plan to carry it on a lanyard around my wrist.

I have always just clipped a knife into the waist band of my shorts. I never used any special lube on any of them and I never had any issues with rust. I don't know how I'd carry all the other stuff. Maybe IWB as well. Or maybe a fanny pack? I've never run 7 miles in a row, but I think I'd probably bring some water with me, so a bag of some sort would be in order.

Good for you on being fit.
I typically run 5-8 miles at a time but school this semester and work has bit into the time. Now Im lucky if i can get 10 miles a week. I carry a spyderco native with the FRN handle, because it's light and it has a nice pointy tip.
I run with headphones too, but I have them turned down enough so i stay situationally aware. I imagine most runners do that anyway.
I sometimes run with my chinese Ka-bar folder. it's a bigger folder. It has a 4" combo blade. I like that one.
Perhaps my main criteria is cost, if I lost it how mad would i be? So I carry something I wouldn't miss too much.

Since I only have a Para2 that's what's in my
pocket while running. Light enough, nice blade, never noticed it bouncing around.
Only been threatened once, that was two of those crazy
dogs-big-as-rats on a biking ladys leash literally standing up
against the leash trying to get at me.

Usually run between 5-8km, never had it rust on me.

Why not a Camelbak and clip your choice of knife to the strap? If you do this and use a Tek-Lok you greatly increase the number and size of your options.

I carry my Tasman salt or SE Military IWB at ~4 o'clock when wearing shorts or jogging pants.

i don't carry for defense when i run, but if i did it would be a spderco endura with emerson opener- big, light and with the emerson wave you won't have to worry about fumbling with your knife when you're out of breath

I was thinking about this the other day. I tried my silent soldier as a neck knife at the gym but it was way too heavy and the D2 isn't the best choice around sweat. Maybe I will look into a salt but the issue with IWB is that it could open.

I know it's been said already, but definitely ditch the headphones.
Either the spyderco salt1 or pacific salt are for me, depending on if I am running or biking.
Both are light, flat, and sweatproof.

+ one on the Camelback. I used to have a small pack like that for mountain biking, and I wish I had put a hydration system in it. I'd just carry a few small containers of water (recycled water bottles). You can find them at cycling shops with the thin lightweight waist band and a sturnum strap that keeps it stable against to your body for jumps or whatever. Take care, and good luck. put headphone player in pack too. I'm sure it would work well for running if you could just keep from over filling it lol.

I've tried carrying a couple of fixed blades while running. I don't like carrying much of anything in my pockets while running, as it all tends to either fall out or drive me crazy after running long enough, so I looked into some non-folding options.

The two that worked best were a Gerber Guardian (the new version, which is a genuinely awful knife but has a decent sheath) and the Cold Steel Braveheart (very decent knife, but an awful sheath that dulls the knife) - I clipped them inside my waistband at about my lumbar and they stayed there quite well - no rattling, no chafing. I don't run marathons or anything, but those worked well enough for 10-17km runs (6-10 miles).

I also tried an ESEE Izula carried around the neck, but I found that it just bounced around and drove me friggin' crazy after 5k or so.
