Exotic patterns

I've been thinking about Carl's pattada off and on lately. I have more knives than I know what to do with, I don't need any more, but some exotic patterns just cloud your mind. It doesn't help that Italian/Sardinian makers on Facebook keep posting pics every evening. Add to that the "fighting slipjoint" thread, that knife has just tripped my trigger. I found a book on collectible knives, that showcases a lot of European makers. Mainly French and Italian. It's like someone opened the door to a new world for me.

Man, I thought I had it bad with British/American/German slipjoints and bushcraft patterns.

:(;):D

Even though one of my favorite patterns, the horsemans knife, is on the cover, the book is moreso devoted to French and Italian patterns.

Dan,
it's all about perspective. Not too long ago, a stockman would look exotic to me :)
Anyway, which Sardinian makers are posting their knives on FB, and where are those pictures? :p
Welcome to my knife world ;)

I felt the same way about that thread Dan, and would also like to add a few regional knives to my hoard. I think for 2014 a good resolution for me may be to concentrate on just a few very special knives, like a nice Resolza, and maybe a nice French pattern like the aforementioned one :)

Duane,
maybe this one will suit your hands: :p

As some of you know, lately I've helped a few members here in their search for a resolza, and it has been great for me to help the spread of my homeland's cutlery tradition. Each person that got a resolza did mention the curious/admired comments on those knives, which made me smile. I get the same sort of comments on my multibladed slipjoints :)

Even Crocodile Dundee would be satisfied with that one! :-)

I saw a super nice pattada in Rome a few years back. It was an antique and had a ring locking mechanism at the front bolster, which worked very well. It had about a 5 inch blade and an excellent handle. It was being sold at the Armoria off Via Venato for a handsome price of $ 700 Euro. Too rich for my blood, but I still wish that I had bought it. I've been back to Rome 5 times since then and I always go to that particular Armoria looking for my long lost love.
