Hi friends,
I just ordered what for me are exotic stones, that is Jasper, Baikalite and Guangxi, from Gritomatic. I basically ordered everything they had for my KME. Do you have any experience with these? Any tips or special uses?

Thanks!

i was going to make a thread just like this. i too would like more information on these finishing stones. right now im trying out the venev diamond stones per this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ded-Diamond-stones-for-KME-Edge-pro-amp-KSPro

but i wanted to get a finishing stone and those are the 3 that you just mentioned.

the Suehiro GOKUMYO STONE is a 20000 JIS grit, i dont even see that on there grit chart, what would that be in microns? will this provide a mirror polish?

The Guangxi stone is 8000-12000 JIS grit, will this leave a mirror polish for cheaper than the Suehiro?

The JASPER WHETSTONE doesnt have any information about what kind of finish it will leave. whetstones i dont believe have a grit rating.

same with the Baikalite sharpening stones.

what kind of finishing do these leave? should i choose more than one of these, should i choose just one? which one and what finish would i get.

I will be sharpening s30v, s90v, m390, s35vn, s110v, cpm-154 mostly.

Mo2 Mo2 I am the creator of the chart you link. I am in the process of revising it. The Japanese standard stops at 8000, so anything higher, or values not in the standard e.g. 5000 and 7000, could be anything really. However in this case Suehiro makes a specific claim of 0.5 micron for the Gokumyo 20,000 stone. This happens to align with the raw microabrasive powder rating used by one prominent Japanese manufacturer, but the Suehiro #13,000 value does not fit so it does not appear that there is an ad-hoc standard for these grits, unfortunately.
