I was looking for a cheap pen for travelling with a few basic requirements...
- small yet still comfortable to use
- metal construction; preferably all metal
- ball point; personal preferance
- cheap; always a good thing
- refillable; I hate throwing things out

I found it!

I shopped around locally and online but baulked at the prices of some of the ones I saw or they were typically of very poor construction... That is till I saw these. They expand like an ASP baton I and are available in quite a few colours. I was torn between the green and the grey but eventually bought the grey; less flashy. Applying my teachers discount I got this for a lot cheaper than they already are. Street price on these are SGD10 (approx USD7)... Price varies online.

The refill is very smooth with fine and medium nibs; mine is medium 0.7mm. Black, blue and red refills are available. Closed length is 10.3cm and fully extended it is 13.3cm. Very pocketable. I'm gonna get a few more of these and pass them out as a reward to some of my students who did well this semester. If you have the chance do check them out.

Not my pic...

I have a different model of these telescoping Zebra pens and I really like it. They write pretty well, are very cheap, and are much more compact to carry and still a joy to write with.

Thanks for the review. Gonna stop by Office Max tomorrow and take a gander.

Thanks... :) I forgot to mention that they sell these in a very nice gift box. Padded with a small piece of ribbon to hold the pen in. The box has a nice magnetic clasp too. Unbelievable value...

Those are nice. Need to check those out. I just purchased some key chain pens by Zebra. Very nice and inexpensive to boot. I'm always forgetting to take my pen out of my bag but I always have my keys. At about $2.00 apiece, they can't be beat.

I love my zebra, I just recently lost my 701. This new pen look like a pretty good replacment. Are the grips reubbery feeling like on a cell phone, or plastic like on the 301?

It feels rubbery and gives a nice grip. I kind of like the one posted by smegs too. Gonna hunt one down. It's no tactical pen but I never needed one anyway.

Thanks for the info, I've never seen this model before. I've got several of the F-301s but I'll have to go check these out and pick up a few.

How much play is there in the tip when extended?

I tried a display model at Staples a while back, and there was really a ton of play. I was trying to figure out if it was just from wear and tear, or if it was inherent in the pen.
