Still looking into equipment and came across these 6" and 8" expanding rubber drums for bench grinders, 6" & 8".

Expanding Drums

There are Silicon Carbide belts from 60 to 600, diamond belts, felt belts, leather belts, ...

I'm wondering if you can hollow grind/polish with them.

You can use them ... but, they wont last as long as one of the longer belts that most makers use.And welcome to the forums.

These are fine for lapidary or wood work but they tend to chatter when working metal, the sleeve is so small the splice is constantly hitting the workpiece leaving chatter marks. The hard ends of the drum prevent effective blade grinding.
 
Save your time and money:p
You will pay far more in agrevation and wasted time than you save in $ (ask me how I know this).
I plan on selling my Coote with a bunch of accesories (sp) in the near future.
