Expanding Slotted Wheels

I was talking with my old teacher and blacksmithing buddy this morning and he suggested as a cost effective way to supplement my grinding capabilities that I might look into an expanding slotted rubber wheel for my bench grinder. The idea is these things expand upon spinning and grip the belt that is slipped over them. I checked out MSC and sure enough they offer a 6" wheel and appropriate 18 15/16" scotchbrite and other abrasive belts although I couldn't locate them all in the catalog. Just wondered if anyone had used or seen these before. Sounded like it might be a low cost way to be able to do hollow grinding particularly if a larger diameter wheel was available. Also wouldn't have to change over the wheel on your machine if you wanted to go from 8" to 10" provided that the larger diameter exists. I still might check it out just for the scotchbrite although the wheels ain't cheap- over $100...The belts weren't expensive however.
