Last Tuesday night wanted somethin to munch on. No peanuts or cashews in the house. Found some hazelnuts left from a can of mixed nuts.

Ate some. A short while later, I was in the ER with an anaphylactic reaction. Throat swelled, tongue was about 2x thick.

Holy crap!!!

After 10 hours of antihistimines and steroids, got to come home.

Luckily I hadn't gone to bed, may not have woken up....

Gotta go now and get tested to find out exactly what else can do this.

Luckily I recognized it early, and popped some Benedryl-like pills, and grabbed my Epipen.

Not really anxious for a repeat.

When building your FAK, make sure to take plenty of antihistimines, both capsule and liquid. Could ensure you get to the hospital....

Holy crap!!

Good to know you’re still with us! Man makes you really want to think about the food you pack when heading into the woods too. This could have been much more than a pain in the ass if the odds were slightly against you.

That sucks man. I'm glad you're OK. That's another item I got to check the PX for when I get a chance. I'm gonna add it to my Unit One bag. I'm the most trained combat lifesaver in our battalion. I am also the only certified one in our platoon in Iraq. I'm really glad that you survived!! Stay away from those hazelnuts.

This is also a good lesson for people out in the woods with kids who have never been stung yet. Liquid benadryl could be a lifesaver.

Thanks for sharing!

Thatmguy,

Ana-Shock can be pretty scary to deal with. I am glad you are okay!

Good advice you give here, and I think critical for people to know.

Stay well, and stay away from nuts!

Best,

~Brian.
