I received my REI rebate and want to buy my wife a Exped Downmat or TAR NeoAir. Does anyone have any experience with either of these sleep mats? I want my wife to be comfortable so she will come out more often.

I dont have either, but my 2 buddies have them.

The Exped Downmat is by far the comfier they both say. The down feathers does a better job preventing the cold ground from draining your body heat away. My buddy says its much more comfy than other self-inflatable mats hes owned.

Ive handled the neoair, and its incredibly light. It dosent feel very sturdy, although im sure it can handle what most regular hikers can throw at it. The material its made of is very very thin, and i believe it was designed for light backpackers who care alot about weight.

If i was you, id go with the Exped for the wife. Like you said, comfort is priority number one, and the Exped was designed with comfort in mind.

Okay, razzing aside, I think the Exped DownMat might be the best choice for persuading a reluctant wife to join you. It is downright luxurious! Obviously, it weighs more than the NeoAir, but I'm betting you will be willing to carry excess weight for her.

AND, you can always use it when she chooses to stay home!!! :)

Also, the more comfortable she is in the out of doors, the more likely she is to want to come the next time. VERY IMPORTANT POINT!
