Back from a 2-week expedition to the world’s highest waterfall and South Americas highest tepui (flat top mountain)—mount Roraima!
The travel was almost as long as the two separate hikes, but well worth it.
Angel Falls (Salto Angel)
It is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a height of 979 m (3,212 ft) and a plunge of 807 m (2,648 ft). The waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyantepui mountain in the Canaima National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Gran Sabana region of Bolívar State. The height figure 979 m (3,212 ft) mostly consists of the main plunge, but also includes about 400 m (0.25 mi) of sloped cascades and rapids below the drop and a 30-metre (98 ft) high plunge downstream of the talus rapids.
After the international flight to Caracas I did a national flight to Puerto Ordaz and was picked up by “The Crazy German” and taken to Ciudad Bolivar.

After one night it was time to take the world’s smallest bush plane (only 5 people) over the Gran Sabana to Canaima National Park…this ride took about 2 hours.

From there it was another 5 hours by boat…small wooden boat with zero covering.

We had some nasty rapids and often had to pull over and hike to a safer place for us to catch up to the boat, due to the low water and rapids. These side hikes were all about 1 mile.

Then it was time to hike to the falls…this was the trail.

Twisted roots and mud…

Angel Falls

Jungle Chicken

Camp for about 30 people

Cool axe

Morning view from our camp!

Boat ride back was easier since we were hammered by rain all night and the river was high!

Canaima lagoon

Hike to and behind waterfalls…

Reward dinner
