My son and I were lucky enough to attend The Blade show in 2009. While we were there we got to see and handle some of the new spyderco prototypes. I liked the Sage II that I bought and it has become my EDC knife. My teenage son really liked the Manix two with the caged ball bearing lock. (This was before the manix 2 or sage 2 was released.) This year I decided to surprise him with a Manix 2 for Christmas. It came last night, and of course I had to make sure that they sent the correct knife, and inspect it. (It would be wrong to give a gift that wasn't perfect.)

I have to say I am really liking the Manix 2. What a solid knife. Great ergos. apparently now I have to save up enough money to buy one for myself. It won't kick the Sage out of my pocket during the week, but I can see that I need a Manix 2 for weekend duty. maybe if I skimped on the gifts to the inlaws I could get one sooner....hmmm. Just a thought.

" What in-law's " ????? ;)
Be safe.

The Manix 2's show up now and then on the Sales and Trade forums -- you could probably pick up a pre-loved one for yourself to save a little money. You have to gift the new one, though. And I'm certain your son will be thrilled!

Grizz,

You are a good dad. Your son will be thrilled - the Manix 2 is a fantastic looking knife.

I've never thought about or purchased a used knife before. That's a good idea. I'll have to start looking after the holidays. I'm excited about my seeing my son opening the Manix. he has no idea and I think he will be thrilled.

Keep in mind that "pre-loved" and "pre-owned" doesn't necessarily mean used. I have acquired many knives on the Sales/Trade forums here, and most are good as new. Most members are very good about disclosing condition.
