This may not be expensive to some people, but I was going to bid $150 and thought I had a chance.

Take a look at this khukuri on Ebay

More expensive because of the provenance I guess. I'd like to see it in person.

Col. W.B.Bailey lives on.

(If there's a heaven, or post-death reward, I want to be able to time-travel and see what happened to some of the lives I've read about, or heard about. That, and understand gravity, and maybe evolution, and maybe.....):)

the punch line to that joke is.....

"so God says, how many lanes do you want that bridge to Hawaii to be?":)

Look more carefully. The winning bid was 431 British Pounds, or nearly $690 at current exchange rates.

I have the big brother to that beauty. Might even have been made by the same hand which would be intriguing. This monster is 26" o/a with the same acid etched design. Note how Havildar Sing spelled "khukari".

ps
I would value that knife from eBay at between US$1200-$1500

John, a few posts down is a Damascus khukuri (the second photo in that post). Do you think it was worth the selling price of $700? I am not the owner, I lost the auction, but I'm curious as to how rare these are.

SARGE!

Hope you're reading this.

Better start etching your name and the date on all the Khuks passing thru your hands. Offer them up to the Forumites for donations to a good cause.

Then go out and do something which will get you a Medal of Honor, and get your name on an airport somewhere.

On another note, how much do you think a HI khukuri etched with the name "Bruise Lee" would bring in a 100 years. I can see it now:

Provenance - Blade etched with the name "Bruise Lee" possibly linked to famous Asian actor Bruce Lee who is credited with popularising martial arts in the Western hemisphere through his movies. Although Bruce Lee was never shown using a khukuri in his movies, it is believed that the item might have either been a gift from a fan from Nepal where the English language is not commonly used or a joke referring to his insistance on doing his own stunts in his movies. Please refer to archives in the Schwarzenegger Presidential Museum of Motion Picture Arts. Bids starting at $5 million.

S 357, I can't tell from those pictures. Is there a clear one showing the "water" in the blade? It's a 20thc kukri and this particular model isn't rare and comes in many different grades and many different variations as to markings and chirras. It looks like a nice example and you say it went for $700? That seems a bit high to me.

Then go out and do something which will get you a Medal of Honor

Sorry Kahuna, you got the wrong guy. I only do what I have to do, and guys that go looking for trouble or taking unecessary risks just plain annoy me. To my thinking, those who serve well serve humbly.

And then we have the likes of Pappy Boyngton. Did I spell that right?

After 20 months in a Japanese prison camp he said, "The Japanese accomplished the impossible. They kept me sober for 20 months."

That was after the Flying Tigers and back in the Marine Corps. He was a hell of a pilot.

I'm glad they gave him some camera time for the TV show, I hear he needed the money by then.
